Manchester United are looking to climb up the Premier League table as they take on Leicester City this weekend.
- Date: 16/03/2025
- Kick-off time: 19:00
- Location: King Power Stadium, Leicester
Leicester City are currently 19th in the Premier League with 17 points from 28 games. The Foxes are having a miserable campaign back in the Premier League after having barely made a fist of their survival attempt.
With Ruud van Nistelrooy now in charge, Leicester are on their second manager of the campaign, but Van Nistelrooy's short tenure has done little to fill the fans with any confidence that the Dutchman is the right man to lead the team's attempts at promotion next season.
This is not to say that Leicester are mathematically relegated, mind, as they're still only six points behind Wolves. The issue, though, is that their trajectory is a fatal one, as they come into this game with just one win in their last 14 games, losing 12 of their last 13.
Such a run of form gives the impression of a side that's down and out, and when you combine their form with the quality disparity between them and a side like Wolves, you can see just how unlikely survival looks right now.
Still, they'll give the final ten games of the campaign everything they've got, and when Manchester United are in town, Van Nistelrooy won't have to do much to motivate his players for the occasion.
Manchester United are currently 14th in the Premier League with 34 points from 28 games. The Red Devils are another club whose fans have had to endure a painful campaign, but contrary to Leicester, all is not lost this season.
The team's struggles during this campaign, and since the arrival of Ruben Amorim, have been well publicised, and it's looked at times like the appointment was destined to fail, with performances under the Portuguese boss showing little signs of improvement. However, performances and results have been ever so slowly improving in recent weeks, culminating in a 5-2 aggregate victory over Real Sociedad in the Europa League last 16.
It's still way too early to claim that United are in the nascent stages of a resurgence under Amorim, but it could be argued that the past few weeks have been the most positive few weeks of the whole season and that the team has shown qualities they haven't displayed for quite some time.
This weekend will be a big indicator of the direction the side is heading in, as they not only will be expected to produce three points, but also put on an impressive performance. We're all aware of United's tendency to deliver stale, uninspiring performances against bottom half sides in the league, so this is a good chance to demonstrate true progress.
