This game is extremely difficult to call, as the two title contenders from last season meet at Anfield in Matchday three of the Premier League season.
The Reds made Anfield a fortress last season, only losing to Nottingham Forest in their title-winning campaign and heading into this game, Liverpool have won seven of their last nine Premier League matches at Anfield, stretching back to last season. Arne Slot's side this season and in various moments towards the end of their last campaign have been struggling defensively, as the home side are without a clean sheet in their previous 13 matches.
Their defensive worries were highlighted on Monday, as Liverpool were almost made to rue a two-goal lead against Newcastle United, with the Magpies also being down to 10 men for a large majority of the game. This was the second time this season that Liverpool almost lost out on points against Bournemouth, but eventually won 4-2 thanks to Mohamed Salah and Federico Chiesa.
Arsenal's strength is their defensive resolve, shown by their performance away at Old Trafford and this season, they have finally addressed their attacking options by signing Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres, the latter of whom scored a brace against Leeds United last time out. For this clash at Anfield, however, Arsenal will be weakened in the wide areas, with Bukayo Saka missing out through a hamstring injury, and Martin Ødegaard remains a doubt.
Predicting a scoreline between the best attacking line in the league vs the best defence in the league is likely going to see both teams cancel each other out. The last three league meetings at Anfield resulted in a stalemate between the two sides, and we think that will be the case here in a 1-1 draw.
