Manchester United vs Manchester City Prediction

Manchester United versus Manchester City is an intriguing match-up at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Red Devils come into this game as underdogs, however, they have won two of the last three derby matches, having earned a dramatic 2-1 win over City back in December, as well as a well-deserved 2-1 victory in the 2024 FA Cup final.

Ruben Amorim was in charge of United for the last derby game, however, it must be said that United’s home record is poor, as they have won six, drawn two and lost seven of their 15 league games at Old Trafford, earning 20 points in the process.

However, City’s away record is also less than desirable, as they have picked up 21 points from 15 matches away from the Etihad Stadium, winning six, drawing three and losing six while finding the back of the net 25 times and conceding 21.

The Both Teams to Score market has landed in all of the last four head-to-head clashes between Manchester United and Manchester City, a trend that we can see being repeated here.

Prediction: Manchester United 1-1 Manchester City

Manchester United vs Manchester City Prediction & Preview

On Sunday, 6th April, Manchester United hosts Manchester City in what is set to be a hotly contested Manchester derby at Old Trafford.

Date: 06/04/2025

Location: Old Trafford

Time: 4:30pm

This is the second time that these two sides have met this campaign, as Manchester City managed to beat Manchester United on penalties in the Community Shield after a 1-1 draw which saw Bernardo Silva score a 89th-minute equaliser after Alejandro Garnacho had given United the lead in the 82nd minute.

There was more late drama in the most recent league clash between the pair, as United emerged as 2-1 victors at the Etihad Stadium back on 15th December, as a Bruno Fernandes penalty in the 88th-minute and a stoppage time strike from Amad Diallo gave United all three points after Josko Gvardiol has headed in a deflected cross from Kevin De Bruyne late on in the first half.

Manchester United’s Premier League season is a good as irrelevant when it comes to achievements, as they sit 13th in the table with 37 points from 30 matches, 15 behind fourth-place Chelsea in the final Champions League qualification places, however, they still do have pride to play for here as they look to do the double over their city rivals for the first time since 2019/20.

Winning the UEFA Europa League will be United’s main focus and ambition this season, as that represents their only chance of qualifying for European football next season. Ruben Amorim’s side beat Real Sociedad 5-2 on aggregate in the Round of 16 to set up a quarter-final tie with Lyon.

Manchester City will be desperate to re-qualify for next season’s Champions League, as they are fifth in the Premier League with 51 points from 30 games, having won 15, drawn six and lost nine times. At present, there is very little room for error in the race for European football, as the likes of Fulham in 9th-place are just six points behind the Cityzens.

On top of their league ambition, City will be keen to win the FA Cup in order to avoid their first trophyless season since 2016/17. They will face Nottingham Forest in the semi-finals of that competition having progressed past AFC Bournemouth (2-1), Plymouth Argyle (3-1), Leyton Orient (2-1) and Salford City (8-0).

Form Guide

Manchester United

On Tuesday night, Manchester United suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground as former Red Devil, Anthony Elanga, scored the only goal of the game in the 5th-minute.

Prior to that match, United had earned a 3-0 win at Leicester City thanks to goals by Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes shortly after thrashing Real Sociedad 5-2 on aggregate in the Europa League’s Round of 16.

In that sequence of results, United also managed a 1-1 home draw with Arsenal as Bruno Fernandes superb free kick was cancelled out by a long range strike by Declan Rice.

Manchester City

Manchester City earned a comfortable 2-0 win over Leicester City on Wednesday night as Jack Grealish and Omar Marmoush both got on the scoresheet in the first half.

The Egyptian also managed to score the winner in City’s 2-1 FA Cup win away at AFC Bournemouth last Sunday after Erling Haaland had equalised early on in the second half following Evanilson’s 21st-minute opener.

In the run-up to those matches, City had drawn 2-2 at home with Brighton & Hove Albion after losing 1-0 at Nottingham Forest and beating Plymouth Argyle 3-1 in the Fifth Round of the FA Cup.
