Newcastle United vs Fulham Prediction

Newcastle United should have enough quality in their attacking department to overcome a Fulham side, which has been a strong outfit away from as of late.

The Magpies will be hoping their performance against Bournemouth (1-4) was just a minor blip, as overall, the home side have won nine of their previous ten matches coming into this game and seven of their last eight Premier League matches.

Fulham’s resolve away from home has been excellent, with the Cottagers losing only once in their previous five on their travels - including picking up an impressive point away at Liverpool (2-2).

Alexander Isak is our pick to be the difference between the two sides at the weekend, as the Swedish international has 17 goals this season and has scored four league goals in his last three matches.

That being said, we feel Newcastle United will just about see this game out, 2-1.

Newcastle United 2-1 Fulham.

Newcastle United vs Fulham Preview & Prediction

Newcastle United continue their march towards European football, as the Magpies host a Fulham side who just recently lost to Manchester United at home.

Date: 01/02/2025
Location: St.James’ Park
Kick-Off: 3 pm

Newcastle United has taken advantage of the open opportunity that has presented itself, with teams underperforming, and the Magpies have indeed capitalised. Newcastle United are in fifth place in the Premier League, with 41 points gained from 23 matches, level on points with fourth-placed Manchester City. The Magpies have scored 41 goals and conceded 27 - with 12 wins, five draws and five losses.

Fulham are occupying the final position in the top ten, with the Cottagers two points above the bottom half of the league table. Fulham can move into ninth in the Premier League table, as they are within a point of Brighton & Hove Albion. Marco Silva’s side will drop as low as 11th should Brentford obtain points in their fixture against Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham lose to Newcastle United.

Where to watch

Team News

Newcastle United are expected to be without the likes of Harvey Barnes, Jamal Lascelles and Callum Wilson.

Fulham are expected to be without the likes of Reiss Nelson, Kenny Tete and Harry Wilson. The latter of which was taken off during Fulham’s 1-0 loss to Manchester United.

Form Guide

The recent league meetings between the two teams suggest that the Magpies will be the favourites against a Fulham side performing well under Marco Silva this season. Newcastle United have won four of the previous five league meetings between the two teams, including the last two home meetings (3-0 & 1-0). The Magpies have kept three clean sheets in the previous five league meetings between the two sides, with the home side scoring first in six of the last seven meetings between the two teams. Interestingly, Fulham have not recorded a league victory at St.James’ Park since 2009, in which Diomansy Kamara provided the game's only goal in that fixture.

Newcastle United are in excellent form coming into this game as Eddie Howe’s side chase down those highly sought-after European places. The Magpies have won seven of their previous eight Premier League matches and nine of their last ten matches in all competitions - suffering only one defeat against Bournemouth (1-4). Newcastle United have recorded victories against the likes of Manchester United (0-2), Tottenham Hotspur (1-2) and Southampton (1-3) during this unprecedented run of form for the home side.

On home soil, Newcastle United have improved their recent home record in the last few weeks, with the Magpies only losing once in their previous five matches at St.James’ Park. The home side had recorded three consecutive victories against Aston Villa (3-0), Leicester City (4-0) and Wolverhampton Wanderers (3-0). Before this run of form, Newcastle United had only one win on home soil in their previous five matches, suffering defeats to West Ham United (0-2) and Brighton & Hove Albion (0-1).

Fulham require much improvement in their form, with the visitors only winning once in their last five Premier League matches. The Cottager's win against Leicester City (0-2) was their only win in five, and they’ve suffered defeats against the likes of West Ham United (3-2) and, in their most recent games, Manchester United (0-1). Marco Silva’s side has only kept one clean sheet in their last six Premier League matches while conceding two or more goals in five of the previous six occasions for the visitors.

Away from home, Fulham have only lost once in their previous five Premier League matches - in context, the visitors have also drawn twice in their last five matches against Liverpool (2-2) and Tottenham Hotspur (1-1). Interestingly, Fulham’s two victories were against Leicester City, and they managed to break their horrendous record away at Stamford Bridge when they recorded a 2-1 win against Chelsea, thanks to a late goal from Rodrigo Muniz.
