Sunderland's start to their first Premier League campaign since 2016/17 has been the reward of the Black Cats showing ambition in the transfer market, accompanied by the excellent tactical acumen of former FC Lorient manager, Regis Le Bris.
Sunderland signed no fewer than 15 players this summer. While that may make balancing their options difficult, the Black Cats have performed excellently this season and proven themselves to be a formidable side in the Premier League, and, with all likelihood, look set to remain in the division.
The home side has obtained 17 points this season, with their home record at the Stadium of Light accounting for 10 of those points. Sunderland have won three of their four home league games, remaining unbeaten and conceding only twice - the joint-lowest goals conceded at home with AFC Bournemouth. The home side are generally in good form heading into this game, having won three of their previous five league games. The only defeat suffered by the Black Cats was away from home to an in-form Manchester United.
As for Everton, their recent defeat against Tottenham Hotspur (0-3) highlights their current defensive troubles, which have seen the Toffees go six games without a clean sheet and by conceding first in five of those six games. The only time Everton reversed this trend was by scoring first against an inferior West Ham United side. David Moyes' side have only won once away from home this season against Wolves, while having the unfortunate pleasure of losing three of their four trips on the road this campaign.
That being said, with Sunderland flying in the league, accompanied by a resolute home record at the Stadium of Light, we can see a win here for the hosts, as David Moyes is likely to suffer a defeat against his former club.
Sunderland 2-0 Everton
