West Ham vs. Fulham - Prediction

West Ham looked an improved unit against Aston Villa at the weekend and while it's going to take Graham Potter some time to fully turn the ship around, he looks like he's going to make the Hammers tough to beat in the near term.

Fulham have drawn six of their last nine games and the reverse fixture between these two sides back in September finished 1-1, so we fancy these two sides to cancel each other out here. West Ham 1-1 Fulham.

West Ham vs. Fulham: Prediction, Preview & Betting Tips

West Ham United are hoping to start a revival under Graham Potter as they lock horns with Fulham in the Premier League this weekend.

  • Date: 14/01/2025
  • Kick-off time: 19:30
  • Location: London Stadium, East London

West Ham currently sit 14th in the Premier League with 23 points from 20 games this season. West Ham’s struggles have been well documented this season, with the Hammers presenting as one of the most underwhelming teams in the league during the first few months of the campaign. A heavy summer of investment brought much optimism about the club’s prospects this season, but the appointment of manager Julen Lopetegui proved a poor choice - an outcome many predicted after he was appointed in the summer. Lopetegui has now been shown the door, but fingers are increasingly being pointed at director Tim Steidten, whose decisions in terms of both signings and the managerial appointment have set the club back notably.

Lopetegui’s replacement is former Brighton and Chelsea manager, Graham Potter, who despite his struggles at Chelsea last time out, comes into the job with a fairly big reputation. Potter will first look to address West Ham’s defensive issues, with the team having conceded a whopping 39 goals in 20 games. Potter is renowned for his out-of-possession work, so Hammers fans should be confident that he can bring a level of stability that the team needs.

The issue for Potter is that the team has some notable injury issues up top, with Michail Antonio, Jarrod Bowen and Niclas Füllkrug all on the treatment table. Potter will have to improvise, but he is unfortunate in that those absences could make it difficult for him to get his Hammers career off to a good start.

There were signs of improvements in the team’s play when West Ham took on Aston Villa in the FA Cup at the weekend, so they now need to double down on that and produce a good showing here. Games against Fulham are rarely easy, so any result here will be positive if it’s accompanied by a good performance.

Fulham come into this game in 9th place in the Premier League with 30 points in 20 games. The Cottagers are having an excellent campaign in the league as they target a top seven finish. Under Marco Silva, Fulham are one of the most accomplished sides in the league and are exceeding most peoples' expectations.

With just 27 goals conceded this season, Fulham have one of the tightest defences in the league, and that comes with centre-back Joachim Andersen having missed large swathes of the campaign. With 30 goals scored, they could improve going forward, but their strong foundation defence gives them a very high floor as a side.

Left-back Antonee Robinson is arguably the best left-back in the league, while Alex Iwobi has been an extremely impressive performer. With 8 goals in the league, striker Raúl Jiménez is also having somewhat of a renaissance at the age of 33 after a few down campaigns. Ultimately, Fulham have quality all over the pitch, and while there are a number of sides of a similar quality in the league this season, they should be optimistic about what they can achieve.

Team News

West Ham Team News:

The Hammers are struggling with injuries in the forward department, with Michail Antonio, Jarrod Bowen and Niclas Füllkrug all out injured.

Danny Ings, then, should lead the line for the Hammers here, while 19-year-old Oliver Scarles will be hoping to have done enough to keep his place in the starting XI.

Predicted lineup: Fabiański; Wan-Bissaka, Mavropanos, Kilman, Scarles; Souček, Álvarez; Summerville, Kudus, Paquetá; Füllkrug.

Fulham Team News:

Fulham are set to be without Reiss Nelson, Sander Berge and Kenny Tete for this one, with the trio all sidelined with injuries.

Andreas Pereira started the FA Cup tie with Watford at the weekend and could return to the starting lineup here, Raúl Jiménez should keep his place up top.

Predicted lineup: Leno; Diop, Andersen, Bassey; Castagne, Lukić, Pereira, Robinson; Wilson, Jiménez, Iwobi.

West Ham vs. Fulham - Form Guide

West Ham:

West Ham’s form is very poor heading into this one, with the Hammers producing one win, one draw and three defeats from their last five games. their latest outing saw Graham Potter take charge of his first game in the West Ham dugout at Villa Park in the FA Cup, and although they were beaten 2-1, the team displayed a few notable improvements.

Before that, West Ham were battered 4-1 by Manchester City, which came after another drubbing at the hands of Liverpool, this time 0-5.

Those results followed a 1-0 win away at Southampton, thanks to a Jarrod Bowen goal, and a 1-1 draw with Brighton.

Fulham:

Fulham come into this match unbeaten in their last five games, with two wins and three draws. The Cottagers took on Watford in the FA Cup third round at the weekend, emerging 4-1 in a comfortable victory, with the goals coming from Rodrigo Muniz, Raúl Jiménez, Joachim Andersen and Timothy Castagne.

Prior to that, Fulham played out consecutive 2-2 draws, most recently against Ipswich Town - where Jiménez scored two penalties, the second of which was a stoppage-time equaliser - and before that against Bournemouth, where Jiménez and Harry Wilson recorded their names on the scoresheet.

Those results preceded a huge 2-1 win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, where a pair of late goals from Wilson and Muniz secured a dramatic comeback, and a 0-0 draw against Southampton.
