West Ham United hosts Newcastle United at the London Stadium in what is a battle between 15th and sixth in the Premier League standings.
Date: 10/03/2025
Location: London Stadium
Time: 8pm
As previously mentioned, West Ham beat Newcastle 2-0 at St. James Park in the last head-to-head clash as Tomas Soucek and Aaron Wan-Bissaka fired in goals at the start of each half.
The Hammers have had somewhat of a turbulent campaign, having started the season under the management of Julen Lopetegui, a choice which many fans of the club didn’t agree with following the departure of David Moyes, having initially wanted to move to a more pro-active style.
The Spaniard was sacked on 8th January, having won just seven and drawn five of his 22 matches in charge of the Irons. Since then, they have had former Chelsea manager Graham Potter at the helm, winning three of his first eight games, however, they are in the process of a sizeable stylistic change.
At present, West Ham sit 15th in the Premier League 16 points clear of 18th-place Ipswich Town, while in cup competitions, they exited the League Cup 5-1 away at Liverpool in the Third Round, while in the FA Cup, they were defeated 2-1 by Aston Villa in the Third Round, meaning that there hasn’t been any form of escapism from what has been a below-par league campaign.
On the other hand, Newcastle are on 44 points from 27 matches, meaning that they are just four points behind third-place Nottingham Forest - showing just how close the race is for European qualification, as the Magpies look to qualify for the Champions League for what would be the second time in three seasons under Eddie Howe.
Newcastle suffered a disappointing 2-1 FA Cup defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion at home, however, they are set to face Liverpool in the League Cup final, having brushed aside Arsenal 4-0 on aggregate in the semi-finals, as well as Brentford (3-1), Chelsea (2-0), AFC Wimbledon (1-0) and Nottingham Forest 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
