For our Villarreal vs. Anderlecht prediction, we're going for a 2-1 win for the home side.
Villarreal are looking to make the Europa Conference League quarterfinals this week as they welcome Belgian club Anderlecht to Eastern Spain.
Villarreal enter this game having secured a solid result in the first leg with a 1-1 draw in Belgium. The contest was an even one and ultimately a draw was a fair result, but it's also a result that massively favours the Spanish side as they now have the opportunity to finish the job on home soil.
They enter this game amidst a solid run of form having won two and drawn two of their last four matches, the most recent of which was a 1-1 draw with 5th place Real Betis in the league.
Their form at home has, though, been mixed of late with El Submarino Amarillo having won two, drawn one and lost two of their last five matches on home soil.
Still, they're having a strong season in the league as they sit in 6th place and are on course to finish in a European spot. This is their tie to lose and while it won't be a simple game they should progress to the quarterfinals.
Anderlecht, by contrast, have had a tough season this time around as they sit 9th in the Belgian Pro League, twenty-eight points shy of leaders Genk.
Their form has been up and down of late having won two, drawn two and lost one of their last five matches in all competition, but they are coming into this game off the back of a positive result having beaten Cercle Brugge 2-0 at the weekend.
Islam Slimani bagged a brace for the Belgian side in their win over Cercle Brugge meaning he now has four goals in his last four games, and his form could be crucial in determining whether or not Anderlecht reach the next round here.
Their form away from home hasn't been great of late though, with the Belgian side having drawn one and lost two of their last three games on the road.
All in all Anderlecht face a tough task away in Spain against a side with solid European pedigree. The tie is firmly in the balance, but away side are the clear underdogs here and it may well take a season-best performance to see them through.
