Scotland make their first appearance at the World Cup since 1998, as they take on debutants Haiti at the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, home of the New England Patriots.
Under the tenure of former West Bromwich Albion manager Steve Clarke, the Tartan Army has reached their third consecutive tournament appearance with two previous European Championships under their belt. Scotland achieved their first World Cup qualification in 28 years in dramatic circumstances, with a monumental 4-2 win on home soil against Denmark to usurp the Danes and finish top of their qualification group. Making their ninth appearance at the World Cup, Steve Clarke's side have never made it out of the group stages, but have been afforded the opportunity to get the ball rolling against Haiti.
Scotland's preparation has been excellent, with consecutive victories against fellow World Cup participants Curacao (4-1) and, more recently, South American side Bolivia (4-0), with the scoreline against Bolivia being over before half-time. The Tartan Army has a wealth of European league experience on their side and in midfield is where this game will be won for the Scots. The tenacity of Aston Villa's John McGinn, accompanied by the goalscoring exploits of former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay, will be enough for Scotland to exert their dominance over Haiti before the much trickier ties against Brazil and Morocco still to come.
Haiti 0-3 Scotland
