Sweden and Germany meet in Zurich on Saturday to decide top spot in Group C at the 2025 Women's Euros. Both sides have already secured their places in the quarter-finals after winning their opening two matches, but with group supremacy and a potentially more favourable knockout route at stake, neither will be taking this encounter lightly.
Sweden come into the game in fine form, having beaten Denmark 1-0 before easing past Poland 3-0. Peter Gerhardsson’s side have yet to concede in the tournament, with Filippa Angeldahl, Stina Blackstenius, Kosovare Asllani and Lina Hurtig all on the scoresheet so far. The Swedes came into the tournament as one of the favourites and they're certainly living up to that billing, even though they're still considered somewhat of a dark horse amongst the favourites, given the strength of sides like Spain..
Germany, meanwhile, have also looked every bit a tournament contender. They opened with a 2-0 win over Poland and then came from behind to defeat Denmark 2-1, with Lea Schuller scoring in both games. Sjoeke Nusken and Jule Brandt have also impressed, recording goals and assists as Germany desperately look to recapture their past continental dominance. The absence of captain Giulia Gwinn with an injury has been a setback, but the depth is Germany's squad means they're capable of coping with major absences.
With both teams boasting strong defensive records and plenty of individual attacking talents, a close game is expected. The winner will avoid a likely semi-final meeting with Spain, providing added incentive in what should be a game of high intensity, despite both sides having guaranteed progression.
