Domestic football has finished, the goals have been counted and the winner of the European golden shoe has been crowned. The winner is not awarded the shoe just based on goals alone, they take into account what league the player plays in to determine whether or not it is as competitive or as high a quality as the others.
UEFA assign a difficulty rating to the Leagues ranging between one and two. They then use this rating to create a points system. The amount of goals a player scores in then multiplied by the difficulty rating of the League they’ve scored those goals in. The top five European League all get the rating of 2 whereas the likes of the Liga NOS gets a lesser rating of 1.5.
This season has seen a lot of goals, the Premier League alone saw over 1000 goals with Manchester City breaking the Premier League goals record in a single campaign with 104. We’ve also seen the record broken for goals in a Champions League campaign. However, Champions League goals don’t count towards the European golden shoe with it just League goals being counted.
We want to see if you can name the top 23 of this season’s European golden shoe. It sounds easy but it’s a lot more difficult than you think. We’ve given you a pretty generous six minutes to name as many as possible and once you’ve given it your best shot tweet us @FootyAccums and we’ll RT the best – good luck!
