The long wait is almost over for football fans all over the globe, with the 2018 FIFA World Cup now just a matter of days away. Four years of excitement and anticipation are pretty much over and we can't wait for it to get started. It all gets underway on 14th June when hosts Russia take on Saudi Arabia, and the wait for England is too long after that. We face Tunisia on the following Monday (18th June) and it's going to be interesting to see how Gareth Southgate's inexperienced squad fare on the biggest stage of them all!
The World Cup is a fantastic watch for us as supporters but for the players and personnel involved with it, it can be one of the most unforgiving stages of them all. Only the elite tend to succeed and you'd expect it to be a similar case this time around. Some players have made big names for themselves at the finals and set some big records that could stand for some time. One record that every player aspires to break is the one of being the record goalscorer.
Plenty of players have tried to set a new record and it was actually broken back in 2014, with Germany's Miroslav Klose scoring his 16th goal at the final -it was the perfect tournament for him with his nation going on to lift the trophy in the end. In the build up to the biggest tournament in world football we've put together another quiz, and it really isn't easy! You have to name the top 20 highest scoring players in history at the World Cup Finals and we've given you six minutes to do so. It's a really tough one that'll test your knowledge of the tournament, so give it your best shot and tweet your scores into us @FootyAccums!
