The defending champions enter this tournament as slightly ranked outsiders. Italy was excellent in their last European Championships as they foiled England’s plans in the final by beating the home nation at Wembley to win their second European Championship.
Roberto Mancini left the national side to become the head coach of the Saudi Arabia national team in 2023. His subsequent replacement Luciano Spalletti was the obvious replacement considering the success he had at Napoli.
Italy is in a tough group with the likes of Spain and Croatia to contend with. The reigning champions finished second in their qualifying group, behind beaten finalists England. Gil Azzurri won four out of their eight qualifying games, drawing twice and losing the remaining two.
