First Fight Overview

The thrilling first showdown between the British heavyweights was captivating, with Dubois knocked down twice before scoring the eventual eleventh-round stoppage. Dynamite admitted he underestimated his rival that night and has vowed not to make the same mistake again in London this weekend. However, the big disappointment for the 31-year-old would have come after allowing Dubois back into the bout, giving Dynamite the chance to control the pace and take control of the centre of the ring. Wardley’s fatigue was evident as the fight progressed, and the referee eventually stepped in after a flurry of heavy shots from Dubois in the eleventh round.

The 29-year-old reigning champion brings the better CV into the rematch, winning 23 of his 26 professional fights. His only losses since a shock defeat against Joy Joyce during the COVID-era came against the undisputed king in the heavyweight division, Oleksandr Usyk. Between two undisputed title losses to Usyk, Dubois delivered arguably his best career performance to date, knocking out Anthony Joshua in the fifth round at Wembley in September 2024. Victories over Filip Hrgovic and Jarrell Miller inside the distance also showcase the power that Dynamite possesses if putting together a sequence of shots.

Wardley Form:

The defeat earlier this year marked Wardley’s first professional loss, but his place among the division's elite remains. His victory over Joseph Parker late last year was stunning, becoming only the second fighter to stop the Kiwi to claim the WBO interim title. His power hurt Dubois in the first bout between the Brits, and it has been a key trait throughout his career, with 19 of his 20 victories being scored inside the distance. However, the fatigue shown back in May would be an obvious concern once again this weekend, with two of Wardley’s 22 professional bouts going the distance, failing to win in a split-decision draw against Frazer Clarke in March 2024.

But the Ipswich-born heavyweight remains confident in his bid to avenge that defeat, as indicated after activating the rematch clause just days after the loss earlier this year.

The first showdown between Dubois and Wardley was an instant classic, but sequels often rarely live up to their hype. But, given that both Brits will aim to land heavy shots early in the fight, there is little chance that the rematch will underwhelm. Wardley finished incredibly tired in the first fight, and his lack of late-fight experience remains an obvious concern. In contrast, Dubois only got stronger as the fight progressed, making up for taking his opponent lightly with a sluggish start, which saw him dropped inside the opening 20 seconds.
