Celtic v Rangers Prediction

Another edition of the Old Firm takes place this weekend with the two Glasgow giants set to clash at Hampden Park with a Scottish Cup final in sites for second-placed Rangers and first-placed Celtic.

The Hoops have taken a significant leap in winning and reclaiming their Scottish Cup title as they edged past the Gers at Ibrox just two weeks ago. Celtic would go on and St Johnstone with a season-best display by smashing the club 7-0 in the league. It now leaves them with a six-point lead still at the top of the table as they have now won 26 times, lost just twice and conceded a league-low 19 goals. At the same time, with 13 goals in their past three games they have scored a stunning 78 times in the Scottish Premiership across 33 games, and there is very little hope in Rangers being able to get the win in the league.

Attention for them will now turn to Hampden Park, and after one of their most famous European nights in midweek, the club will need to use all the momentum they have in order to get past such an in-form Hoops side. Rangers did beat Braga on Thursday night, but at the same time, saw 120 minutes of action as Celtic had the night off, which surely only favours the league leaders here.

It was another brace from the irreplaceable Hames Tavernier in that one as he scored twice in the first half to give them a 2-0 lead and a one-goal advantage in the tie. Kemar Roofe bagged the winner in extra time, however, following on from a Braga equaliser.

It's a game that could go either way with it being a cup competition so late in the season with two rivals. Celtic have the form, and Rangers have great momentum, so expect goals and typical Old Firm fireworks.

Celtic team news

Joe Hart will stay in goal, as Taylor, Starfel, Carter-Vickers, and Juranovic stay in defence. Hatate will likely play alongside Callum McGregor once more, with Tom Rogic in midfield too. Maeda should play alongside Giakoumakis and Jota in the forward ranks too.

Rangers team news

Allan McGregor will remain in goal for Rangers, with captain Tavernier at right-back along with Connor Goldson, Bassey, and Barisic. Ryan Jack will remain in midfield too, alongside Lundstram. Expect Aaron Ramsey, Joe Aribo and Ryan Kent in the attacking midfield roles, with Roofe up top. Glen Kamara and Amad Diallo should be ready from the bench, with Alfredo Morelos set to miss this one.
