Club Brugge vs Aston Villa Prediction

We are backing Aston Villa to continue their 100% record in the Champions League. They have scored six goals and conceded zero in three games. Club Brugge are 25 places below them in the table and six points adrift off Unai Emery’s side. Both teams have scored in five of the last six games involving the hosts, and over 2.5 goals have been scored in four of the last five also.

Jhon Duran has made a name for himself in this season’s UEFA Champions League with two goals in three, including a winner against Bayern Munich. Villa’s away record is impressive as they have won five of their last seven games on their travels – Club Brugge 1-2 Aston Villa

Club Brugge vs Aston Villa: Preview & Prediction

Aston Villa travel to Belgium to take on Club Brugge in the fourth game of the Champions League group stages. Villa are looking to continue their perfect start to this season’s competition.

            Date: 06/11/24

            Kick-off time: 17:45

            Venue: Jan Breydel Stadium

It has been a dream beginning to Aston Villa’s first Champions League campaign under Unai Emery as they find themselves top of the standings after three games. They have recorded three victories against Young Boys, Bologna and most significantly Bayern Munich. It is form that they have carried in the Premier League as well, with their strong start putting them in contention for another top four finish this season. After ten games, they are in sixth with five wins and three draws. They have lost just once in their last 11 games in the Premier League and Europe, though that came at the weekend against Tottenham.

Belgian side Club Brugge will be the team looking to halt their European winning streak. Brugge have one win so far, coming against Sturm Graz on Matchday Two. Their three points has them in 26th, so they will be desperate to pick up some points in order to climb the table. They are second in the Belgian Pro League, four points off the top with seven wins in 13. They have not lost in five league games.

However, they have kept just one clean sheet in their last six in all competitions, which occurred in their most recent game at Leuven. This will give Villa plenty of confidence to cause damage. The visitors have scored in all but two of their games this season and have multiple threats to the Brugge backline. Super sub Jhon Duran is their top scorer with eight goals, closely followed by Ollie Watkins with five, showcasing their strength in depth in the striker position.

Unai Emery’s side have also been dominant defensively as they are yet to concede a goal in the Champions League. In the Premier League, though, they have kept just one clean sheet. There are a few names they will have to look out for, including Andreas Skov Olsen who is Brugge’s scoring leader with five goals. Hans Vanaken is also a threat with four league goals on the season. They have scored just twice in Europe, coming courtesy of Chrsitos Tzolis and Kyriani Sabbe.

This will be the first ever meeting between these two teams in any competition. Villa have played only four competitive fixtures against Belgian opposition, winning one and drawing one. Brugge have a far larger sample size against English clubs, facing them on 28 occasions. However, they have had little success with just six wins.

            Club Brugge

Manager Nicky Hayen has no new injury concerns to contend with and should have a fully fit squad to choose from this week. He could name a similar lineup to their last Champions League game, with Andreas Skov Olsen coming in after a recent return from injury.

            Aston Villa

Unai Emery has a fully fit squad to choose from with the exception of Ross Barkley who picked up a small injury. He will be out for the next two weeks.

            Form Guide

            Club Brugge:

In their last five games, Club Brugge have won four and lost one. It has been a strong period for Brugge domestically, with their one defeat coming in the Champions League. This came away at AC Milan, where they lost 3-1. Raphael Onyedika saw red shortly after Christian Pulisic put the hosts ahead. Kyriani Sabbe equalised, but a brace from Tijjani Reijnders won the game for the Italians.

This run started with a 2-1 win away at Westerlo. Jorne Spileers and Hans Vanaken put them 2-0 up early before the home side pulled one back before half-time. A home game against Anderlecht resulted in another 2-1 win. Romeo Vermant and Chemsdine Talbi scored before a late consolation.

A dominant 6-1 victory followed in the Belgian Cup against Belisia Bilzen. Ferran Jutgla (x2), Zaid Romero, Gustaf Nilsson, Bjorn Meijer and Michal Skoras were all on the scoresheet. Their most recent game was a trip to Oud-Heverlee Leuven. They won 1-0 with the winner coming from Andreas Skov Olsen.

            Aston Villa:

In their last five games, Aston Villa have won two, lost two and drawn one. It has been a solid stretch for Villa despite being knocked out of the EFL Cup. They were eliminated by a 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace. Eberechi Eze opened the scoring early before Jhon Duran equalised shortly after. Daici Kamada scored the winner in the second half.

This run started with a 3-1 win at Fulham. Raul Jimenez gave Fulham a fifth-minute lead, but this was quickly erased by Morgan Rogers. Ollie Watkins put Villa ahead before an own goal extended their advantage. Attention then shifted to Europe as they beat Bologna 2-0 in the Champions League. John McGinn and Duran scored the goals.

A return to Premier League action saw them held to a 1-1 draw at home to Bournemouth. A 96th minute leveller from Evanilson cancelled out an earlier Ross Barkley strike. Their most recent game was a trip to Tottenham. They lost 4-1, despite taking the lead through Rogers. Goals from Brennan Johnson, Dominic Solanke (x2) and James Maddison turned it around.
