Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund Prediction

Real Madrid are looking to recover from a defeat in their last Champions League game, and we are backing them to do so against Borussia Dortmund. They have been imperious at home in the Santiago Bernabeu, winning their last five games at home. Los Blancos are also unbeaten on home soil in their previous 15. Carlo Ancelotti’s side have an excellent recent record against Dortmund, and are unbeaten in their last five against them.

The hosts have won the last three against Dortmund, the most recent victory being the Champions League final in June. Dortmund are without a clean sheet in their previous five against Real, and have only kept two clean sheets in their last five away competitive fixtures. The Germans have also lost two of their last four away games. This fixture usually provides goals as both teams have scored in four of the previous five meetings – Real Madrid 2-1 Borussia Dortmund

Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund: Preview & Prediction

Borussia Dortmund travel to Spain to take on European Champions Real Madrid in matchday three of the competition, looking to maintain their spot at the top of the standings.

            Date: 22/10/24

            Kick-off time: 20:00

            Venue: Santiago Bernabeu

After two wins from two, Borussia Dortmund are tied at the top the Champions League standings with six other teams, leading the way on goal difference. This comes following a 3-0 win over Club Brugge in the first game, and a huge 7-1 victory over Celtic last time out. However, they now face their toughest test against Real Madrid, in what will be a rematch of last season’s Champions League final.

Real Madrid have not had as much success in their first two European games, winning one and losing one. In their last game they were defeated 1-0 by Lille. This leaves them in 17th, and they will be eager for a positive result to climb the table. Domestically, they have fared better, as they occupy second place with 24 points from 10 games. They have yet to lose a game in the league.

Though they will be confident in recording victory at home in midweek, it will not be an easy feat against Dortmund. Whilst the Germans’ results have been inconsistent, they have scored many goals. They have found the net in all but one of their games in all competitions so far, and have been particularly dominant in Europe, albeit in a small sample size. In the two games they have scored 10 goals and have conceded once, and could cause some big problems for a shaky Real defence.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side have kept just one clean sheet in their last seven. Serhou Guirassy is a player for them to keep an eye on as he has scored seven goals across the Bundesliga and Champions League. Going forward, Real of course have Kylian Mbappe, who has scored eight in all competitions since his summer switch. Dortmund have also been vulnerable at the back, so this should be a game in which attacks are on top.

This will be the sixth meeting between these two sides since 2016. In the five games, Real Madrid are unbeaten, winning three and drawing two. This includes victory in the Champions League final in June, which was a 2-0 victory for the Spaniards at Wembley. Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Junior were the late goalscorers. The hosts are on a three-game winning streak against their opponents.

            Form Guide

            Real Madrid:

In their last five games, Real Madrid have won three, drawn one and lost one. It has been a solid stretch for Madrid and they have won two in a row. The latest of those was a trip to Celta Vigo in which they won 2-1. Kylian Mbappe gave them an early lead, but they were pegged back shortly into the second half. Vinicius Junior scored the winner soon after.

This followed a home win against Villarreal in the final fixture before the international break. They were comfortable 2-0 winners with goals coming from Federico Valverde and Vinicius in either half. It was an excellent response to losing their Champions League game against Lille. It was their first defeat of the competition as they lost 1-0 away from home. Jonathan David scored the winner on the stroke of half-time from the penalty spot.

The Madrid Derby the weekend prior ended in a 1-1 draw. Eder Militao had given Real the lead midway through the second half, but Atletico equalised at the death through Angel Correa to salvage a point. The first game of this run was a 3-2 win over Alaves. Lucas Vazquez gave his side a first minute lead, before Mbappe and Rodrygo extended the advantage. Two late goals gave Real a scare, but they were able to hold on for the win.

            Borussia Dortmund:

In their last five games, Dortmund have won three and lost two. It has been a mixed stretch for Dortmund as they have both inflicted and endured heavy defeats. The first game of this run saw them travel to Stuttgart, and they were convincingly beaten 5-1 on the road. Denis Undav scored early to put the hosts ahead, before strikes from Ermedin Demirovic and Enzo Millot extended the lead to three. Serhou Guirassy pulled one back late, but two further goals put the game to bed.

They responded well to this loss by beating Bochum 4-2 at home. They actually fell 2-0 behind after 20 minutes, but fought back with a brace from Guirassy adding to goals from Emre Can and Felix Nmecha. Attention then shifted to Champions League action in which they thrashed Celtic 7-1. Karim Adeyemi netted a hat-trick and Guirassy scored twice. Can and Nmecha were also on the scoresheet.

Back in the Bundesliga, they lost their next game 2-1 at Union Berlin. Kevin Vogt and Yorbe Vertessen scored before Julian Ryerson pulled one back. Last time out they hosted St Pauli, with a late Guirassy winner earning them all three points in a 2-1 victory. Ramy Bensebaini had given them the lead, but this was cancelled out shortly before the decisive strike.
