Southampton to win

Southampton begin their Championship campaign with a home tie against newly promoted Wrexham on Saturday, as the Saints look to seek an immediate return to the Premier League this season. The home side has retained a large proportion of their squad from the Premier League, which will give the Saints a terrific platform heading into the new season.

The last time Southampton were in the Championship, they had one of the best home records in the division by winning 15 of their 23 matches at St.Mary's, losing only five matches. Wrexham performed brilliantly to secure promotion in their last campaign, but the quality of Southampton's squad, along with the managerial prowess of Will Still, gives the Saints the edge in this fixture.

Tip: Southampton to win

Coventry to win

Coventry City will be one of the frontrunners for another playoff push again this season, following Frank Lampard's magnificent revival of the Sky Blues last season. Frank Lampard's side have been awarded a home tie against relegation candidates Hull City, who survived by the narrowest of margins last season on the final day, with Luton Town suffering the unfortunate notion of relegation.

Both sides are coming into this fixture, unbeaten in their last three matches, but last season Frank Lampard's side picked up four points from six against the Tigers. Lampard set a unique club record last season by picking up 27 points from his first 10 matches, and last season they had the fifth best home record in the division.

Tip: Coventry City to win

Charlton to win

Charlton Athletic will be brimming with confidence heading into the new Championship season, and their promotion success has been rewarded with a home tie against fellow London-based club Watford. Last season, the Hornets had a poor record on their travels by only picking up 17 points from 23 away games, winning four and losing 14.

Charlton Athletic will hope to replicate their home form from their League One campaign, where they only lost two matches at the Valley in 23 games. The Addicks have strengthened their promotion-winning side by signing League One marksman Charlie Kelman from Queens Park Rangers.

Tip: Charlton Athletic to win

Middlesbrough to win

Rob Edwards will take charge of his first game as Middlesbrough at the weekend, when his side hosts Swansea City at the Riverside. Middlesbrough are unbeaten in their last three matches from pre-season and the home side has a favourable record against the Jacks on home soil. Middlesbrough have won the last five meetings at the Riverside and the hosts have also scored first in six of the last eight games between the two sides.

Swansea City are heading into this fixture with three straight defeats and no clean sheets in their last seven matches and last season they lost 12 of their 23 matches away from home.

Tip: Middlesbrough to win

West Brom to win

All eyes will be on Ryan Mason this season, as he prepares for his first game in charge of West Bromwich Albion. This season, the baggies are tipped to make a push for the playoff places and they have been handed an excellent opportunity to prove their credentials against fellow playoff hopefuls, Blackburn Rovers.

Last season, West Bromwich Albion only lost four matches at home in 23, while Blackburn Rovers lost 11 away from home last campaign. Blackburn Rovers only have one win in their previous eight trips to the Hawthorns.

Tip: West Bromwich Albion to win

Portsmouth to win

Portsmouth are in tremendous form, stretching back to last season, as the visitors look to open their campaign against an Oxford United side who are embarking on their second straight season in the Championship alongside Portsmouth. Pompey are unbeaten in their last 11 matches, and defensively they have been brilliant, with no goals conceded in their previous six games.

Oxford United's record against Portsmouth is rather concerning for the home side, as Portsmouth are unbeaten in the last seven matches between the two sides and Oxford have no clean sheets in 17 against the visitors.

Tip: Portsmouth to win

Sheff Utd to win

Last but not least, the final game on this epic accumulator tip takes us to Bramall Lane, as Sheffield United will want to forget about the disappointment of losing in the playoff final against Sunderland. Last season, the form on home soil for Sheffield United was pivotal in their run to Wembley, as the Blades only lost four matches from 23, winning 15, drawing four.

In this fixture, we are tipping Sheffield United to edge out Bristol City as the Blades are unbeaten in the last nine meetings between the two sides. The two sides met in the playoff semi-finals last season, with the home side recording a 6-0 win on aggregate.

Tip: Sheffield United to win
