Leeds United – 3/1 Outright (EachWay) via SkyBet – 11/10 (Promotion)
The favourites for not only automatic promotion but also the league title are last season’s play-off finalists Leeds United. The Whites are now in their second consecutive season in England’s second tier, following their play-off final defeat against Southampton. Daniel Farke will be under immense pressure if he doesn’t succeed with this Leeds United side, especially since they were one of the running favourites to achieve promotion last campaign.
Leeds United have already strengthened despite the departure of talented midfielder Archie Gray to Tottenham Hotspur. Joe Rodon made his stay at Elland Road a more permanent fixture, following his loan spell at Leeds United last season. Crysencio Summerville has been continuously linked with a constant move away from the club, however, if Leeds United manage to keep hold of the Championship Player of the Year for last season, they stand a great chance. However, the Dutch player has been linked with a move to the likes of Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.
Leeds United are listed as 3/1 Outright on SkyBet, EachWay, paying up to four places. For a single promotion odd, Leeds are favourites at 11/10.
Burnley – 15/2 Outright (EachWay) via SkyBet – 5/2 Promotion
Following the years of stability under Sean Dyche, Burnley now enters the 2024/25 campaign with a second different manager in less than three years. Vincent Kompany had guided the Clarets to a brilliant debut season under his tenure, capturing the league title at Ewood Park which would have delighted the Burnley faithful.
His first and only season with Burnley in the Premier League was less than fruitful. Burnley finished 19th in the league, despite a late showing towards the end of the season, which was ultimately too late for the Clarets. Vincent Kompany then made his feelings clear that his career lay away from Turf Moor, as the Belgian made the unexpected move to Bayern Munich. Burnley opted for a move experienced head at this level as they appointed former Fulham manager Scott Parker. Parker has achieved two promotions as a manager, the first with the Cottagers and the second with AFC Bournemouth, to which, following this, he had a brief spell at Club Brugge.
Burnley are listed as 15/2 Outright (EachWay) paying up to four places. For a single promotion odd, Burnley are second favourites at 5/2. Luton Town – 9/1 Outright (EachWay) via SkyBet – 3/1 Promotion
The final team of our promotion picks are recently relegated to Luton Town. The Hatters finished 18th in the Premier League last season, six points off Nottingham Forest. Luton’s debut season saw them pick up credible draws against the likes of Liverpool at Kenilworth Road. Throughout the summer, there has been speculation whether Luton would lose their beloved manager, Rob Edwards; however, they managed to retain the services of a manager who knows how to get the club promoted. Luton Town have suffered departures this summer with the likes of Gabriel Osho and Ryan Giles leaving for Auxerre and Hull City respectively. Ross Barkley returned to Aston Villa for as little as £5million, as the Premier League side will be preparing for Champions League football next season. Rob Edwards has looked to bolster his defensive options with recent additions such as Reuell Walters and tenacious midfielder Shandon Baptiste.
Luton Town are listed as 9/1 Outright (EachWay) paying up to four places. For a single promotion odd, Luton Town are third favourites
Oxford United – 6/4 via SkyBet
Oxford United were brilliant last season in their promotion campaign from League One. The U’s finished inside the top six spaces last campaign and were thoroughly excellent in their play-off campaign. Oxford were defensively resilient against one of the more frequent scorers in the league, Peterborough United, as they held out for a 2-1 aggregate victory. In the final, Des Buckingham led his side to a brilliant 2-0 victory over Bolton to secure promotion.
Oxford are back in the second tier of English Football for the first time in 25 years; however, bookmakers look to the U's as the favourites for relegation. Des Buckingham has moved in the transfer market to sign talented right-back Peter Kioso, who excelled in his loan move at Peterborough United in the first half of last season. Former prospect Louis Sibley has joined from recently promoted Derby County, although Oxford lost the talented Josh Murphy to relegation rivals Portsmouth on a free transfer.
Plymouth Argyle - 9/4 via SkyBet
Plymouth Argyle fans look set to be in for another season of struggle according to the bookmakers, however, some fans may be optimistic due to a leadership change within the first team. Following the dismissal of Ian Foster, who was largely at fault for the Pilgrims, Plymouth secured survival on the final day of the season with a 1-0 victory over play-off-chasing Hull City. Since that day, Plymouth Argyle have moved to secure the services of Wayne Rooney as manager. Whilst his time at Derby County is fondly remembered, Rooney's recent spell at Birmingham City does raise more questions than answers.
Questions will be asked if Plymouth Argyle can keep hold of Morgan Whittaker. The 23-year-old was one of the main factors in Plymouth's survival last season, as the former Derby County youth product produced 27 goal contributions. Wayne Rooney has been active in the transfer market, securing the signing of former Bolton Wanderers and Peterborough United defender Nathaniel Ogbeta on a free transfer from Swansea City.
Blackburn Rovers - 11/2 via SkyBet
An outside call for the final relegation spot is former Premier League champions Blackburn Rovers. The Lancashire-based outfit finished 19th in the Championship last season under John Eustace. Blackburn Rovers ended the season with two wins in their last five, including the final-day victory over Champions Leicester City. Blackburn scored 60 goals last season and just under half were from Sammie Szmodics. The former Colchester midfielder scored 27 goals last season and one could wonder where the goal would be provided from next season if Szmodics were to suffer a poor season or be linked with a move away.
Blackburn Rovers have only signed two players thus far with youngster Aodhan Doherty from Linfield and goalkeeper Jack Barrett.
