Cheltenham Day 1 Tips - Best Bets

Our tipsters have also picked out a best bet for every race.

1.20pm - Supreme Novices Hurdle

Excellent second in last year's Champion Bumper here.

Progressive in three starts so far this season, and the stamina hill provided by the hill will suit.

Won a Grade 1 by 9 lengths last time out.

2.00pm - Arkle Chase

Comes here off the back of an impressive Grade 2 win. Stamina in abundance, and will stay all the way up the hill.

He's won 4 of his 7 starts over fences, including a Grade 2 last year, and goes on any ground.

3.20pm - Mares' Hurdle

Lossiemouth @ 4/6

Rated 9 pounds above her main rival, Lossiemouth would have been one of the favourites for the Champion Hurdle but instead takes on the Mares.

She won this same race by 3 lengths last year, and wasn't far behind Constitution Hill in December.

Fell last time out but is the class horse in this field and has top jockey Paul Towend booked.

4.00pm - Champion Hurdle

Constitution Hill @ 8/13

Constitution Hill is 8 years old but is still yet to be beaten on the race track, winning a perfect 10 from 10 including 3 at this course.

Won the Supreme Novices Hurdle here in 2022 and this same race in 2023. Missed 2024 with injuries, but was impressive when beating Lossiemouth on his return and won again in January.

The class horse of the race, rated 175, winning this would cement him as one of the best 2 mile hurdlers of the past few decades.

4.40pm - Fred Winter Hurdle

Lavender Hill Mob @ 50/1
ADD TO BETSLIP

Lavender Hill Mob only just made it into this race - his rating of 121 means he's got the lightest weight to carry.

He was a top class Flat horse in 2024, rated 96 and competing at Royal Ascot.

This is his handicap debut and the handicapper has been generous. He clearly has an engine, so if he can stay out of trouble in this big field he could show some serious pace in the closing stages at big odds.

5.20pm - National Hunt Challenge Cup

Trainer Neil Mulholland has been very bullish about Tranmission's chances.

He has clearly been targeted at this race, and he's been lightly campaigned over fences to keep his mark competitive.

He finished second at this track in December and is just one pound higher today.

The step up in trip should unlock more improvement based on how he has stayed all the way to the line in his previous starts.
