Man United vs Bodo/Glimt: Preview & Prediction

Manchester United welcome Bodo/Glimt to Old Trafford hoping to pick up a second win of their Europa League campaign and climb the table.

Date: 28/11/24

Kick-off time: 20:00

Venue: Old Trafford

It is a new era for Man United as Ruben Amorim takes charge of his first home game for the club. After a 1-1 draw in his first game at the weekend at Ipswich, he will look to record a first win. However, United still have much work to do in the Europa League. After four games, they sit in 15th with just one win, though they are yet to be beaten with three draws. Three points are a must in this one to remain in a good position to finish in the top eight.

They host a Bodo/Glimt side who are actually above them in the table. The Norwegians are in 12th place, a point above their opponents. In the Eliteserien, they are top, a point clear of Brann. They had gone through some poor form, but picked up a first win in four league games against Odd at the weekend.

Goals could be on the cards for both sides, with Bodo/Glimt scoring at least twice in four of their last five games in all competitions. Kasper Waarst Hogh is their top scorer and most dangerous threat having scored 11 goals in the league and Europe. The team in general have been a force going forward, leading their division with 66 goals in 29 games. They have not been as potent in Europe, but have netted six in four.

Against a United team who will still be adapting to a new system, it could present an opportunity for the visitors to cause some issues. However, at the other end, the hosts will be confident in achieving success going forward. In their last five games, they have scored 12 goals, four of which have come from Bruno Fernandes. Amad Diallo has proved a key contributor in Europe, scoring a brace in their latest game against PAOK. They come up against a defence which has kept just one clean sheet in five.

This will be the first competitive meeting between these two sides. This will also be the first match against Norwegian opposition for Man United. Bodo/Glimt have had experience against English opponents, albeit just two games. These were both against Arsenal in the Europa League group stages in 2022. They lost both fixtures, and failed to score in either.

Form Guide

Manchester United:

In their last five games, Man United have won three and drawn two. It has been a much improved stretch for United with new manager Ruben Amorim taking charge. His first game at the helm came last time out at Ipswich, and his team were held to a 1-1 draw after Omari Hutchinson cancelled out an early Marcus Rashford opener.

This followed a win prior to the international break. They were 3-0 winners at home to Leicester, with Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho on the scoresheet, adding to an own goal. It made it two wins in a row after a 2-0 victory over PAOK in the Europa League. Amad Diallo scored a second-half brace.

United welcomed Chelsea to Old Trafford and the points were shared in a 1-1 draw. Fernandes gave the hosts the lead from the spot, but they could not hold on as Moises Caicedo scored an equaliser. This run started with another fixture against Leicester, this time in the EFL Cup. United won 5-2 to advance to the Quarter-Final of the competition. Casemiro and Fernandes both scored braces, whilst Garnacho also found the back of the net.

Bodo/Glimt:

In their last five games, Bodo/Glimt have won one, drawn two and lost two. It has been a poor stretch for the Norwegian side despite their strong start to the season. This run started with a 3-2 home defeat to Rosenborg. Both sides took a lead, but the visitors came out on top with a 92nd minute winner from Noah Sahsah.

Another goal-filled game followed as they drew 3-3 at Molde. Bodo/Glimt recovered from 2-0 down to peg their hosts back to 2-2 thanks to strikes from Ulrik Saltnes and Fredrik Andre Bjorkan. They completed the turnaround shortly after through Casper Oyvann, but could not hold on as Emil Breivik equalised.

Their most recent European tie was at home to Qarabag. They lost 2-1 as their visitors scored either side of a Patrick Berg equaliser. A return to league action saw them pick up another draw, this time at home to Fredrikstad. After falling behind, Bodo/Glimt turned it around despite playing with a man less following a red card to Jostein Gundersen. However, the visitors found a late leveller. Their most recent game was a trip to Odd. They finally picked up a win, beating them 2-0. The goals were scored by Patrick Berge and Jens Petter Hauge.
