      Rangers vs Tottenham Prediction

We are backing the points to be shared in this one, with Tottenham’s inconsistency making it impossible to determine how they will cope in this game. They face a Rangers side who are one place above them in the Europa League standings. The hosts are unbeaten in their last seven in all competitions, whilst on the back of three consecutive wins.

Following their 4-3 defeat to Chelsea at home, Spurs have now won one in four, having lost their last two games and drawing the first two. Spurs have failed to keep a clean sheet in three games, with both teams scoring in six of the last eight involving the visitors – Rangers 2-2 Tottenham

Rangers vs Tottenham: Preview & Prediction

Tottenham travel to Scotland to take on Rangers in the Europa League, with both teams in a strong position to advance automatically.

      Date: 12/11/24

      Kick-off time: 20:00

      Venue: Ibrox Stadium

Rangers currently occupy eighth position, the final place which advances automatically to the knockout stages. They have 10 points after five games, and are unbeaten in their last three in the competition. However, they are level on points with five teams, so are looking behind them just as much as they are forward, as they are three points adrift from the top. Anything but a win could see them drop to as low as 14th, highlighting the importance of a victory at home.

Spurs are in a very similar position as they sit just one place below their opponents, with the same number of points. However, the visitors are winless in their last two after defeat at Galatasaray and a draw at home to Roma. It is form that has extended into their league performances where they have won just once in their last five.

The hosts have been in excellent scoring form as of late, with 15 goals in their last five games in all competitions. At home, they should expect to create opportunities against a vulnerable Spurs defence. Ange Postecoglou’s side have kept just one clean sheet in their last 10 games. Cyriel Dessers and Vavlav Cerny are poised to be the greatest threats, having scored six each in the league and combining for four in Europe.

At the other end, Spurs have several attackers of their own who will test a Rangers defence that has been strong. In their last six games, they have kept four clean sheets and conceded two goals. Brennan Johnson is the visitors’ top scorer in Europe and league combined with nine goals. Pape Matar Sarr and Dominic Solanke have also had some success in the Europa League, scoring twice each.

These two sides have very limited history against each other, meeting just twice in the 1962 European Cup Winners Cup. Spurs were winners of both games, 5-2 at home and 3-2 on the road. The visitors have other experience against Scottish opposition, however, with four games against Hearts and Aberdeen. They won and drew against both. Rangers have a much larger sample size against English opponents with 23 fixtures. They have eight wins and 10 losses, and are winless against Spurs, Man United and Liverpool.

      Team News

      Rangers

Thomas Lawrence and Oscar Cortes are doubts with knocks, whilst Rabbi Matondo is back in training. His availability is still to be determined, however. Neraysho Kasanwirjo is out until January with a knee injury.

      Tottenham

Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero returned to the lineup at the weekend, though they were both substituted off, so it remains to be seen if they will be involved in midweek after long absences.

      Form Guide

      Rangers:

In their last five games, Rangers have won four and drawn one. It has been a strong stretch for Rangers as they are unbeaten in this streak. This run started with their only dropped points, as they drew 1-1 with Dundee United. They fell behind as Sam Dalby scored the opener for the visitors, before Vaclav Cerny equalised midway through the second half.

European action followed as they travelled to Nice. They were comfortable 4-1 winners, with goals from Cerny, Mohamed Diomande and Hamza Igamane (x2) putting them 4-0 up before a late consolation. They continued their momentum with a 1-0 league win at St Johnstone. Jason Holt scored an own goal in the second half to secure three points for Rangers.

Their most recent home game saw them thrash Kilmarnock 6-0 at home. Cyriel Dessers scored a late brace, adding to strikes from James Tavernier, Danilo, Igamane and Cerny. Last time out they travelled to Ross County. They were comfortable 3-0 winners with Igamane, Danilo and James Tavernier all on the scoresheet.

      Tottenham:

In their last five games, Tottenham have won one, lost two and drawn two. It has been an inconsistent stretch for Spurs, beginning with a shocking result. This run started with a trip to the Etihad to face champions Man City. With a stunning display, they were convincing 4-0 winners. James Maddison scored a brace, before goals from Pedro Porro and Brennan Johnson completed the rout.

Attention shifted to Europe for a tie against Roma. They drew 2-2 after squandering a lead twice, including in second half stoppage time. They then hosted Fulham, in which they drew 1-1. Johnson’s opener was cancelled out by Tom Cairney, who was later sent off. Spurs were unable to capitalise on the extra man advantage.

Their downturn in form continued as they were defeated 1-0 at Bournemouth. Youngster Dean Huijsen scored the only goal of the game after 17 minutes. At the weekend they welcomed rivals Chelsea to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. They lost 4-3, squandering an early 2-0 lead. Goals from Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski put them ahead, before their visitors scored four unanswered through Jadon Sancho, Cole Palmer (x2) and Enzo Fernandez. Heung-Min Son scored a late consolation.
