          Tottenham vs Roma Prediction

Tottenham come into this game on the back of a monumental victory over Manchester City, and we expect them to make it two wins in a row against Roma, who are winless in their last three in all competitions. Roma’s away record has been appalling this season, with the Italians yet to win a game on their travels in all competitions.

The visitors are without a clean sheet in their last three, with both teams scoring in four of the last five involving both of these sides. Over 2.5 goals have been scored in the last five involving Spurs – Tottenham 2-1 Roma

Tottenham vs Roma: Preview & Prediction

Tottenham welcome Roma to North London as they face off in the Europa League, with both teams in need of a win.

          Date: 28/11/24

          Kick-off time: 20:00

          Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

The desire for three points is much more pressing for the visitors Roma, as they sit in 20th after four games. They have recorded just one win and are at risk of falling out of the play-off places. However, a victory would allow them to keep pace with the numerous teams above them. It is not just in Europe that Roma have been struggling, their league form has also left a lot to be desired. They are currently in 12th, 12 points adrift of the European places.

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham side have a little more room for error than their opponents, but they will want to strengthen their place in the top seven to ensure progression to the knockout stages. With nine points from a possible 12, they are in seventh, and a win would put them in a great position to advance. However, they are looking to recover from a defeat to Galatasaray in their last European game.

Highlighting their inconsistencies this season, Spurs beat Manchester City last time out, a fantastic response to a shock home defeat to Ipswich. Depending on which Spurs side turns up, this could be a tough evening for Roma. The hosts have scored at least twice in four of the last five games in all competitions, and should have more success against a visiting defence which has conceded 12 in their last five games. Brennan Johnson leads the club with seven goals across the two competitions, but they also have threats in Dominic Solanke, Heung-Min Son and James Maddison who will cause issues.

Defensively, Spurs can be vulnerable, opening the door to some attacking joy for Roma. They have kept one clean sheet in six, though have won four of these games. However, if Roma are to have some success, they will likely lean on Artem Dovbyk and Paulo Dybala, who have combined for eight goals across both Serie A and the Europa League. The team have struggled as a whole for goals, scoring only 17 goals in 16 games across the two competitions.

This will be the first competitive meeting between these two sides. Spurs have been frequent opposition for Italian teams, playing in 21 fixtures. However, they have not had much success, winning on just six occasions and losing seven. It is a similar story for Roma, who have won just 15 of 47 meetings with English opposition.

          Form Guide

          Tottenham:

In their last five games, Tottenham have won three and lost two. It has been an inconsistent stretch for Spurs, which has included some shocking results. This run began and ended with meetings against Manchester City. The first was an EFL Cup tie in which they were 2-1 winners at home. Timo Werner and Pape Matar Sarr were on the scoresheet. Last time out they faced City in the league and were convincing 4-0 winners. James Maddison scored a brace, before goals from Pedro Porro and Brennan Johnson completed the rout.

They secured another impressive victory against Aston Villa. Despite falling behind, they came out on top 4-1 winners, with goals from Johnson, Dominic Solanke (x2) and Maddison. Attention shifted to Europa League action, where they fell to a 3-2 defeat to Galatasaray. Will Lankshear cancelled out an earlier opener from the hosts, before getting sent off in the second half. Victor Osimhen netted a brace to make it 3-1. Solanke pulled one back but they could not complete the comeback.

Their losing form extended into the Premier League as they were condemned to a shock defeat at home to Ipswich before the international break. Sammie Szmodics and Liam Delap put the visitors in front before Rodrigo Bentancur halved the deficit.

          AS Roma:

In their last five games, Roma have won one, drawn one and lost two. It has been an underwhelming stretch for Roma as wins have been hard to come by. They faced league leaders Napoli in their most recent game but fell to a 1-0 defeat. Romelu Lukaku scored the only goal.

This followed a 3-2 home loss against Bologna before the international break. The visitors took a first half lead which was cancelled out by Stephan El Shaarawy. However, Bologna quickly retook the lead before adding another. El Shaarawy scored his second but it was not enough to complete a comeback.

Europa League action saw a trip to Union Saint-Gilloise end in a 1-1 draw. Gianluca Mancini put Roma in front, but the Belgians levelled it up soon after. On their travels, they faced Verona in Serie A, but fell to a 3-2 loss. Roma came from behind twice, but ultimately lost to an 88th minute winner from the hosts. The first game of this run was a 1-0 win over Torino. Paulo Dybala scored the winner.
