Napoli vs Frosinone: Preview & Prediction

Frosinone make the trip to the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona to take on Napoli this Sunday. Napoli will be looking for three points to take them closer to European football next season, whereas Frosinone need a win to get themselves out of the relegation zone.

        Date: 14/04/2024

        Kick off time: 11:30

        Location: Estadio Diego Armando Maradona

A roller coaster season for both sides sees them far from where they would’ve wanted to be. Napoli are only part of the chasing part for European football and Frosinone are battling to stay in the Serie A next season.

Napoli currently sit seventh in Serie A after 31 games. The Blues have 13 wins, nine draws and nine losses, leaving them on 48 points, ten points from Champions League football.

The Blues have been consistent in front of goal this season, scoring 44 goals in 31 games, an average of 1.47 goals a game. However, Napoli have struggled defensively, conceding 38 goals and keeping six clean sheets.

Frosinone, on the other hand, currently sit 18th in the Serie A. In 31 games Frosinone have six wins, eight draws and 17 losses which leaves them on 26 points, one point from safety.

The Canaries have also massively outperformed in front of goal in relation to their league standing. In 31 games, Frosinone have scored 38 goals which gives them an average of 1.23 goals a game. At the other end of the pitch, Frosinone have been poor, conceding 61 goals and keeping three clean sheets.

Napoli and Frosinone have met just 11 times in their histories, with the first meeting coming back in 2005. Napoli have the better record in the fixture with eight wins in comparison to Frosinone’s singular win, the other two games ending in a draw.

Despite only having one win in the fixture, this came as the most recent meeting, with Frosinone beating Napoli 4 - 0 in the Coppa Italia. Also, only one of the last five meetings has seen both sides on the scoresheet.

Eusebio Di Francesco, however, will be without Sergio Kalaj, Anthony Oyono, Kaio Jorge and Francesco Gelli this weekend. Though Abdou Harroui can return this weekend.

        Recent Form

In their last five games in all competitions, Napoli have one win, two draws and two losses.

Kvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring for Napoli just after the hour mark, but Antonio Sanabria equalised for Torino just three minutes later. Despite having 63% of the possession and eight shots on target, Napoli couldn’t find the back of the net again and had to settle for the 1 - 1 draw.

The second leg of the Champions League saw Napoli in Spain to take on Barcelona. Fermin Lopez and Joao Cancelo put Barcelona into a 2 - 0 lead before the 20 minute mark but Amir Rrahmani got Napoli in the game before halftime. However, a late goal from Robert Lewandowski secured the 3 - 1 win for Barcelona and an exit from the competition for Napoli.

Back in the Serie A it was a big game against Inter Milan. Matteo Darmian gave Inter the lead late in the first half, but Napoli managed to convert one of their three shots on target in the 81st minute through Juan Jesus to rescue a 1 - 1 draw.

Back on home turf, Napoli hosted Atalanta. Aleksei Miranchuk and Gianluca Scamacca both scored to give Atalanta the 2 - 0 lead at halftime. Teun Koopmeiners then added another in the 3 - 0 win for Atalanta, despite Napoli having eight more shots than them.

The last time out for Napoli was against Monza. A goal from Milan Duric in the ninth minute gave Monza the 1 - 0 lead at halftime, but goals from Victor Osimhen, Matteo Politano and Piotr Zielinski gave Napoli the 3 - 1 lead at the hour mark. Andrea Colpani did score for Monza but a goal from Giacomo Raspadori secured the 4 - 2 win for Napoli.

In their last five games in all competitions, Frosinone have three draws and two losses.

Walid Cheddira opened the scoring for Frosinone in the added time of the first half to give Frosinone the lead over Lecce. However, an own goal from Michele Cerofolini brought Lecce back level just after the hour mark. Frosinone couldn’t convert any of their other six shots on target and had to settle for the 1 - 1 draw.

The trip to Sassuolo saw Kristian Throstvedt score the only goal of the game to give Sassuolo the 1 - 0 win as Frosinone could only manage one shot on target.

Frosinone were on the scoresheet early against Lazio, Pol Lirola giving them the lead, though Mattia Zaccagni did equalise for Lazio before halftime. A brace from Valentin Castellanos put Lazio 3 - 1 up after the hour and even with a goal from Cheddira, Frosinone still suffered a 3 - 2 defeat.

A penalty from Albert Guomundsson gave Genoa the lead in the 30th minute but a goal from Reinier Jesus made it level before halftime. However, neither team could find the back of the net in the second half and had to settle for the 1 - 1 draw.

The most recent outing for Frosinone was against Bologna. Both sides had five shots on target each but neither could convert any of them as the game finished in a 0 - 0 draw.
