Fiorentina vs AC Milan Prediction & Betting Tips

AC Milan make the trip to take on Fiorentina in the Serie A, as they look to strengthen their position in the top four of the table.

          Date: 30/03/24

          Kick-off time: 19:45

          Venue: Stadio Artemio Franchi

The Serie A title is effectively out of reach as Inter Milan lead by 14 points with nine games remaining. However, there are a number of positions below that are still up for grabs. AC Milan sit second behind their rivals, and are three clear of Juventus in third. Second was a position that Juve had mostly held, but the recent surge by Milan in which they have won three league games in a row, has seen them jump ahead. Another victory this weekend would only solidify their spot and perhaps create a little breathing room. However, a defeat would open the door for Juventus to go level on points. It would take an unlikely collapse for them to fall out of the top four altogether, as they are 11 clear of Roma in fifth.

Fiorentina, in contrast, are in desperate need of a win to keep their slim hopes of a European spot alive. They currently occupy eighth and are on 43 points, which is eight behind fifth. Three points would maintain that gap at the very least, and at best cut it to five. A loss would significantly damage their chances, and could even see them drop to as low as 11th, depending on other results.

In all competitions, Milan are on a five-game winning streak, but going back further, they have kept just two clean sheets in their last eight. The hosts are enduring greater struggles at the back, shutting out an opponent just once in twelve. As a result, there could be goals in it for both teams. Fiorentina will rely on Nicolas Gonzalez, who is their joint top scorer with seven. Milan will look to Olivier Giroud who has 12. Christian Pulisic has also contributed nine goals.

These two teams have played out some very close games in recent years. Milan have edged the last five meetings with three wins to two, but all have been decided by one goal. The reverse fixture earlier this season ended in the Rossoneri’s favour, as they won 1-0. Theo Hernandez scored the winner from the penalty spot.

          Form Guide

          Fiorentina

In their last five games, Fiorentina have won two and drawn three. The hosts are in good form, having been unbeaten in this stretch across two competitions. The first of this period was a 2-1 win over Lazio, in which they had to come from behind. On the stroke of half-time, Lazio midfielder Luis Alberto gave them the lead. Fiorentina responded well and equalised through Michael Kayode 15 minutes into the second half. Parity was not restored for long as Giacomo Bonaventura netted the winner eight minutes later.

This preceded a 0-0 draw at Torino which they would have been disappointed to have not returned home with more than a point. It was an even game that suddenly shifted in their favour deep into first half stoppage time when the home side were reduced to 10 men. Playing an entire half with a man advantage, the visitors were unable to find a breakthrough which was a wasted opportunity to record a win.

Attention shifted to European action, as Fiorentina took on Maccabi Haifa in the Europa Conference League. The first leg, in which they were away, was a goal fest as they won 4-3. They went ahead very early, but the Israeli side hit back and took the lead. The game continued to go back and forth until Antonin Barak netted a 95th minute winner to take a slender lead back home. The return leg was not as exciting, but Fiorentina managed to advance with a 1-1 draw.

Between these two legs was a 2-2 draw with Roma. Luca Ranieri gave them the lead, but Houssem Aouar equalised. Rolando Mandragora put them back in front, but this time they were victims of a late goal as Diego Llorente struck in the 95th minute to share the points.

          AC Milan

In their last five games, AC Milan have a perfect record, winning all of them. They are in a rich vein of form as they compete near the top of the table. This stretch began with a narrow 1-0 victory at Lazio, as an 88th minute Noah Okafor strike secured all three points. Lazio had a man sent off shortly into the second half, which the visitors took advantage of, before two more saw red deep into stoppage time.

European action was on the cards as Milan’s interest switched to the Europa League. They faced Czech side Slavia Prague in the Round of 16, beginning with the first leg at home. Goals from Olivier Giroud, Tijjani Reijnders, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Christian Pulisic helped them to a strong 4-2 lead. The return leg ended 3-1 in their favour, with Pulisic and Loftus-Cheek on the scoresheet once more. Rafael Leao scored the third to send them on their way to a 7-3 aggregate win. Sandwiched between these two games was a narrow 1-0 result against Empoli. It was a dominant display in terms of shot attempts and possession, but it was Pulisic’s goal which split the pair just before half-time.

Their most recent outing was a 3-1 win at Verona. Theo Hernandez broke the deadlock a minute before the break, before Pulisic scored yet another to double the lead. The hosts pulled one back but Samuel Chukwueze put the game to bed with a third.

          Footy Accumulators Prediction

AC Milan are in their best period of the season, and look difficult to stop right now. We expect this to continue as they face a Fiorentina side who have dropped some points in recent games. The hosts will get on the scoresheet, but Milan will prove too strong – Fiorentina 1-2 AC Milan
