Juventus vs Milan: Preview & Prediction

The two most successful teams in Italy renew their rivalry this weekend in most certainly Serie A’s biggest game historically. Juventus host AC Milan with both sides looking to finish the season strongly.

            Location: The Allianz Stadium

            Date: 27/04/2024

            Kick-Off: 5:00 PM

Both Juventus and AC Milan are highly likely to miss out on the league title to Inter Milan this season, however, pride is still at stake in this highly fierce rivalry. The game sees second-placed host third place, with both sides looking assured of UEFA Champions League qualification.

Juventus are currently third and a win would not move them above AC Milan due to the visitors having a five-point advantage. By the time this game takes place, AC Milan could move eight points clear of Juventus. Juventus and AC Milan are both guaranteed to retain their position in the league despite any result.

The Old Lady are still active in the cup competitions, having beaten Lazio 3-2 on aggregate in the Coppa Italia. Juventus are seeking a league double over their opponents after beating AC Milan 1-0 back in October.

            Juventus Team News

Moise Kean is out for the rest of the season after suffering knee problems in recent weeks. Nicola Fagioli and Paul Pogba remain long-term absentees.

Timothy Weah and Andrea Cambiaso are suspension risks for this game.

            AC Milan Team News

Pierre Kalulu could return in time for this game. The Frenchman had been out with a ligament injury but is expected to be back soon. Fikayo Tomori and Yunus Musah are both suspension risks. Should either of them obtain a yellow in their next game against AC Milan, they will be suspended for the game against Juventus.

            FORM GUIDE

The recent history between both sides is evenly matched. From the last five games between the two bitter rivals, both Juventus and AC Milan have won twice, lost twice, and drawn the remaining fixture. Albeit one of the victories for Juventus was in a pre-season friendly

Juventus and AC Milan have played each other 70 times in direct competition with the Old Lady being victorious on 32 occasions. There have been 21 draws between the two teams, with AC Milan winning the 17 remaining games. On average this fixture provides an xG of 2.37 goals per match.

These two bitter rivals famously met each other in the UEFA Champions League Final in 2003. The game itself was a timid affair which was decided by penalties. AC Milan held their nerve that day to lift the trophy at Old Trafford.

AC Milan have a rather respectable record away at the Allianz Stadium in recent games. The Rossoneri are unbeaten in their last three games away at Juventus having recorded a 1-0 win over their old rivals back in May 2023. Interestingly, this fixture favours the away team in recent times.

In four out of the last eight fixtures between the two sides, the away team has been the victor with the only home win taking place last season. AC Milan won that game 2-0 at the San Siro and followed that up with a 1-0 win in May to record a league double.

The last time Juventus won a home fixture against AC Milan was back in 2019. The Old Lady recorded a 1-0 win thanks to a goal from Paulo Dybala. Dybala was a second-half substitute for Cristiano Ronaldo. In the last five games between the two teams, there have been four clean sheets on record with the last time both teams scored was a 1-1 draw in 2021. The last time there were at least four goals scored in a game between the two sides was in 2021 when Juventus won 3-1 at the San Siro.

Juventus have excellent home form in Serie A this season that is despite their recent form at the Allianz Stadium. At home, Juventus have played 16 games, winning ten, drawing five and losing just once. The Old Lady have won two out of their last five home games, drawing twice and losing just once.

Massimo Allegri’s side have averaged 2.19 points per game at home, as well as scoring 1.44 goals per game at the Allianz Stadium. Defensively, they have been superb having only conceded 0.63 goals per game. In the Old Lady’s previous home game, they secured a 1-0 win over Fiorentina thanks to a goal from Federico Gatti.

According to the statistics, Juventus conceded the majority of the play, having only 25% possession and conceding an xG of 1.24 goals to their 0.79. Juventus held on for the win, however. Dusan Vlahovic leads the way in the scoring charts for Juventus. The Serbian striker has 16 goals this season and has averaged 0.71 goals per 90 minutes played.

As for the visitors, AC Milan has every chance to walk away with a result next weekend. The Rossoneri come into this game on the back of some fine away form in their last five games.

Milan have won three out of their last five games away from the San Siro, drawing once and losing the remaining game. From the 17 games played away from home, AC Milan have won ten, drawn four and lost three.

Stefano Pioli’s side averaged exactly two points per game and achieved a 59%-win rate away from home. In the attacking areas of the pitch, they have scored 2.18 on average away from home. Although defensively they need to improve their rate of 1.71 goals conceded away from home.

In their previous away game, they were held to a 3-3 draw against Sassuolo. AC Milan were 3-1 down at one stage but goals from Luka Jovic and Noah Okafor secured the comeback.

Olivier Giroud is still maintaining a great scoring rate for a player of his age. The Frenchman has scored 13 goals this season and has contributed eight assists.
