Juventus vs Atalanta Prediction & Betting Tips

Juventus host Atalanta in the Serie A, desperate for three points to keep their fading title hopes alive. The visitors need a win to climb the table.

            Date: 10/03/24

            Kick-off time: 17:00

            Venue: Allianz Stadium

With 11 games remaining, Juventus sit in second, trailing league leaders Inter Milan by 12 points. Having picked up just one win in their last five, they have allowed Inter to extend their lead as they may now have to settle for second. However, their poor form has also opened the door for AC Milan to close the gap, who are just one point behind them in third. A victory this weekend would see them maintain their position, and perhaps take advantage of any Inter slip-up. Defeat would all but end their title hopes.

Atalanta, in contrast, are fighting for a top-five place. They faced Bologna at the weekend as their search for a victory continues following a two-game winless slide. Their 2-1 loss moved them down to sixth, falling further behind both Roma and Bologna. A much-needed victory against Juventus would help them keep pace with the sides above them, but any dropped points would give the teams below them an opportunity to close the gap.

Forty-nine goals have been scored by the visitors this season, which puts them amongst the league’s best. There should be plenty of chances to add to that tally against a Juventus defence who has not kept a clean sheet in the last six games. Teun Koopmeiners tops the club’s charts with eight goals, whilst they have four other players on at least five. Dusan Vlahovic will be the main threat for Juventus, with his 15 strikes only bettered by Inter’s Lautaro Martinez.

The last five meetings between the pair have seen just one win apiece, with three draws. The Juventus victory came late last season as Samuel Iling-Junior and Vlahovic got on the scoresheet. Atalanta picked up a 1-0 win away from home in 2021, in which Duvan Zapata scored the winner. The reverse fixture earlier this season ended 0-0 as neither side could find the breakthrough.

            Juventus

In their last five games, Juventus have won one, drawn one and lost three. Max Allegri’s side have been inconsistent as of late and as a result have lost ground in the title race. It began with a trip to Milan to take on the league leaders Inter, in which they were defeated 1-0. Federico Gatti converted into his own net to give the hosts three points. They followed this up with another 1-0 loss, this time at home to Udinese. They dominated throughout, with 71% possession, but could not make the breakthrough. Instead, the visitors took the lead in the 25th minute, and managed to hold on for the rest of the game.

A 2-2 draw with Verona ended the losing streak, but Juve had to come from behind twice to ensure a point. Dusan Vlahovic equalised from the spot, before Adrien Rabiot had to level it up in the second half. They finally returned to winning ways at home to Frosinone, though it took a very late winner to secure all three points. Vlahovic opened the scoring, but their opponents soon turned it around. The Serbian striker grabbed his brace as he pegged them back. They looked set for another draw, but up stepped Daniele Rugani in the 95th minute to steal maximum points. This winning feeling was short-lived, however, as they lost again in their recent outing at Napoli. The hosts scored either side of a Federico Chiesa equaliser to take the win.

            Atalanta

In their last five games, Atalanta have won two, lost two and drawn one. They lost 2-1 at home in their most recent game against Bologna. Ademola Lookman gave them the lead, but goals from Joshua Zirkzee and Lewis Ferguson turned it around.

This continued a winless run in which they picked up just one point against the Milan teams. They were defeated 4-0 at Inter, as four different players got on the scoresheet. This followed a 1-1 draw against AC Milan, a result which snapped Atalanta’s five-game winning streak in the league. Rafael Leao scored in the third minute, before Teun Koopmeiners converted a penalty to share the points.

A home game against Sassuolo ended 3-0 in the host’s favour. Throughout the game, they edged possession, but managed a huge 13 shots on target. Mario Pasalic was the first goalscorer, and Koopmeiners doubled the lead just after half-time. A third was added by Mitchel Bakker to put the game to bed. Genoa were also on the end of a big defeat as they lost 4-1 at home. Atalanta saw less of the ball, and the game was a lot closer than the scoreline suggests. They went ahead through Charles De Ketelaere, but were pegged back by Ruslan Malinovskyi shortly after the restart. Koopmeiners restored the lead three minutes later, and this is how it remained until deep into stoppage time. In the 10th added minute, Davide Zappacosta scored the third, and El Bilal Toure put the icing on the cake in the 13th. Before they take on Juventus at the weekend, Atalanta face Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League on Wednesday.
