Juventus host Atalanta in the Serie A, desperate for three points to keep their fading title hopes alive. The visitors need a win to climb the table.
Date: 10/03/24
Kick-off time: 17:00
Venue: Allianz Stadium
With 11 games remaining, Juventus sit in second, trailing league leaders Inter Milan by 12 points. Having picked up just one win in their last five, they have allowed Inter to extend their lead as they may now have to settle for second. However, their poor form has also opened the door for AC Milan to close the gap, who are just one point behind them in third. A victory this weekend would see them maintain their position, and perhaps take advantage of any Inter slip-up. Defeat would all but end their title hopes.
Atalanta, in contrast, are fighting for a top-five place. They faced Bologna at the weekend as their search for a victory continues following a two-game winless slide. Their 2-1 loss moved them down to sixth, falling further behind both Roma and Bologna. A much-needed victory against Juventus would help them keep pace with the sides above them, but any dropped points would give the teams below them an opportunity to close the gap.
Forty-nine goals have been scored by the visitors this season, which puts them amongst the league’s best. There should be plenty of chances to add to that tally against a Juventus defence who has not kept a clean sheet in the last six games. Teun Koopmeiners tops the club’s charts with eight goals, whilst they have four other players on at least five. Dusan Vlahovic will be the main threat for Juventus, with his 15 strikes only bettered by Inter’s Lautaro Martinez.
The last five meetings between the pair have seen just one win apiece, with three draws. The Juventus victory came late last season as Samuel Iling-Junior and Vlahovic got on the scoresheet. Atalanta picked up a 1-0 win away from home in 2021, in which Duvan Zapata scored the winner. The reverse fixture earlier this season ended 0-0 as neither side could find the breakthrough.
