            Netherlands vs Hungary Prediction

Despite the Netherlands failing to win in three, we still back them to secure the victory here based on the recent meetings between the two sides. The Netherlands are unbeaten in their previous six against Hungary, although neither side has kept a clean sheet in the last four meetings between the two teams.

The Netherlands and Hungary usually provide entertaining encounters, with both teams scoring in five of the last six meetings and Over 2.5 goals occurring in five of the previous six. Expect the home side to be leading at half-time, with the hosts leading in four of their previous five at the interval. The Netherlands have shown great potency in front of goal, having averaged two goals per game in the calendar year when playing on home soil.

As mentioned, we are leaning towards a Netherlands victory here. Hungary will surely provide a challenge for the hosts since the Netherlands defensively don’t possess an excellent record in this fixture; however, we feel the hosts will pick up a 2-1 victory.

Netherlands vs Hungary Preview & Prediction

The international break is upon us once again as the Nations League enters the final stages of the group phase. A pivotal game in Group 3 of League A, as the Netherlands host Hungary on Matchday five.

            Date: 16/11/2024
            Location: Johan Cruijff ArenA
            Kick-Off: 7.45 pm

The UEFA Nations League is reaching its climax, and in League A and, in particular, Group 3, there are still theoretically two spots available for the qualification phase, although in reality, the Netherlands and Hungary will battle it out for the second spot behind Germany. The Netherlands and Hungary are tied in second place for the last spot, although the hosts are ahead on goal difference. This would mean Hungary will have to beat the Netherlands in order to have a chance of qualification since Hungary hosts group leaders Germany on the final matchday.

The Netherlands began their Nations League campaign with an emphatic win over Bosnia & Herzegovina in which notable Premier League stars such as Joshua Zirkzee and Cody Gakpo got on the scoresheet. Since then, the Netherlands have failed to record a single victory with two draws against Hungary and Germany and a subsequent defeat in Munich to the group leaders.

Hungary began their Nations League campaign with a devastating 5-0 loss to Germany in Dusseldorf. Since that defeat, they have shown more resilience, especially defensively, with two clean sheets in their last three. Hungary drew two consecutive games against Bosnia & Herzegovina and the Netherlands before winning their return game in Bosnia to give themselves a great chance ahead of their trip to the Netherlands.

            Where to watch

            Team News

The main discussion point surrounding the Netherlands is the return of Frenkie de Jong. The Barcelona midfielder returns to the national side after a 14-month absence.

Predicted Hungary Eleven: Dibusz, Notka, Orban, Fiola, Boller, Nikitscher, Schafer, Nagy, Sallai, Varga, Szoboszlai.

            Form Guide

The recent history between the two teams, would suggest that the Netherlands will most certainly have the advantage heading into this game. The hosts have not lost to Hungary in the previous six meetings between the two teams, with the visitors failing to keep a clean sheet in those run of games. The hosts have won five of the previous six meetings between the two sides and quite convincingly when analysing the results.

The Netherlands have recorded 8-1 and 6-1 victories over Hungary and have scored 24 goals in the last six outings - averaging four goals per game against Hungary. The visitors recorded their only positive result against the hosts in this fixture in the most recent 1-1 draw with the Netherlands.

The Netherlands have to improve their recent form if they are to overcome Hungary in this fixture, as Ronald Koeman’s side have only won once in their previous five - including two defeats and two draws in those five games. At home, his side faired marginally better, with two wins and one loss in their previous four.

However, they have only won once in competitive competition since the European Championships.
In the Netherlands' most recent home game, they were held to a 2-2 draw by bitter rivals Germany and, since then, have only managed one point from two Nations League fixtures. In their most recent game, they fell to a defeat to Germany thanks to a goal from VFB Stuttgart’s Jamie Leweling.

Hungary enters this game on slightly better form than the Netherlands, although not by a considerable margin. The visitors have won two of their previous five in all competitions, having won twice and drawn twice in their previous five. Hungary are unbeaten in their last three after the 5-0 thumping at the hands of group leaders Germany.

Hungary’s most recent game brought much success for the visitors for this game as they recorded a 2-0 win over Bosnia & Herzegovina. A brace from Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai ensured the win over Bosnia, leaving them with five points from a possible 12 on offer so far this campaign.
