            Tottenham vs Manchester City Prediction

Manchester City’s domestic form should give them the slightest advantage as they travel to face a Tottenham Hotspur, who have made life difficult for the Champions in recent years.

Manchester City heads into this pivotal cup clash with Tottenham Hotspur with five consecutive wins in all competitions, with the Citizens unbeaten in their previous 15 games in all competitions. Pep Guardiola's side have improved their recent record against the hosts, as the Citizens are unbeaten in their last three and have recorded two consecutive wins over Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The visitors are in such domineering away form, as they are unbeaten away from home this season, having won four of their five competitive away fixtures across domestic and European competition. Manchester City have not lost a competitive away fixture since December 2023, when they were defeated by Aston Villa at Villa Park.

That being said, we expect Manchester City to pick up the win here. The game will be a closely contested affair and most probably separated by a single goal in favour of the Citizens.

            Tottenham Hotspur 0-1 Manchester City.

Tottenham vs Manchester City Preview & Prediction

The showcase fixture in the next round of the EFL Cup (Carabao Cup) as Tottenham Hotspur host Manchester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

            Date: 30/10/2024

            Location: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

            Kick-Off: 8 pm

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City have shared some fascinating encounters over the last 15 years, with in particular a famous UEFA Champions League meeting springing to mind, when Mauricio Pochettino led his Tottenham Hotspur side to a famous away gaols victory over Pep Guardiola’s side in 2019. The two have met in this competition in previous years, with Manchester City beating the hosts in the tournament's final of the 2021 edition. The game ended 1-0, with the surrounding story of Jose Mourinho resigning as Tottenham Hotspur manager before the final.

Tottenham Hotspur avoided an early scare against last season’s cup specialists in Coventry City - who famously reached the semi-final of the FA Cup. The Sky Blues secured a second-half lead through Brandon Thomas-Asante before two late goals from Djed Spence and Brennan Johnson rescued the tie for Ange Postecoglu’s side. The goal for Brennan Johnson kickstarted a remarkable resurgence in the Wales international as the former Nottingham Forest has now scored seven in his last nine appearances for club and country.

Manchester City were also made to avoid a potential upset against Watford - a fixture in which they traditionally dominated scoreline-wise over the last five years. Jeremy Doku had given the Citizens the lead in the first five minutes of the tie, with Matheus Nunes providing Manchester City the second goal with seven minutes to go before the interval. Tom Ince gave the Premier League champions a scare with minutes to go, with a goal for the Hornets.

The last time these two teams met at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Manchester City effectively secured the Premier League title with a 2-0 win over Ange Postecoglu’s side thanks to a brace from Erling Haaland.

            Form Guide

Manchester City have the superior advantage when it comes to recent head-to-head meetings between the two sides, as the current Premier League champions are unbeaten in their last three games against Tottenham Hotspur and have won their last two consecutive games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

At home this season, Tottenham Hotspur have been excellent in the Premier League, having won three of their designated four home fixtures - only losing once in the North London Derby. At home in the Premier League in particular, Tottenham Hotspur have been ruthless in front of goal, having scored 2.75 goals per game and scoring four past the likes of Everton and West Ham United. Unsurprisingly, Ange Postecoglu’s side conceded half the number of goals per game at home than they do on their travels. 0.75 at home on average compared to 1.5.

Tottenham Hotspur’s most recent domestic game on home soil was thoroughly excellent as they dispatched of London rivals West Ham United. Mohammed Kudus had given the Irons the lead inside the first 20 minutes, although West Ham were pegged back by a goal by Dejan Kulusevski ten minutes before the interval. Second-half goals from Yves Bissouma, Heung-min Son and an Alphonse Areola own goal gave Postecoglu’s side their third win in four at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

The visitors are in such domineering away form, as they are unbeaten away from home this season, having won four of their five competitive away fixtures across domestic and European competition. Manchester City have not lost a competitive away fixture since December 2023, when they were defeated by Aston Villa at Villa Park.

In Manchester City’s most recent domestic away game, Pep Guardiola’s side showed tremendous strength and guile befitting of Champions as they secured a 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers. Jørgen Strand Larsen had given Gary O’Neil’s side a shock lead early doors before Josip Gvardiol provided a wonderful finish to restore parity for Pep Guardiola’s side. John Stones scored in the game's dying embers to secure a last-minute victory for the Champions and send wild celebrations from the Manchester City faithful at Molineux.
