          Leyton Orient vs Bolton Prediction

Bolton missed out on promotion after they lost the play-off final, whilst Leyton Orient finished in mid-table. However, with a clean slate, we expect there to be nothing to split the pair with a draw. The hosts are undefeated in their last seven games, spanning both pre-season and the back end of last season.

In the last four meetings between them, they have won two games each, so it is usually a competitive fixture. Defensively, both can be vulnerable, with both teams scoring in four of Leyton Orient’s last five games, whilst Bolton have conceded the first goal in five of their last six.

Wanderers’ forward Aaron Collins scored 11 goals in 37 starts last season, with 1.2 shots on target per game, so look for him to record at least one in this game. We back this game to end in a low scoring draw – Leyton Orient 1-1 Bolton

Leyton Orient vs Bolton: Preview & Prediction

The opening weekend in League One sees Leyton Orient host Bolton Wanderers, with the latter expecting to fight for promotion.

          Date: 10/08/24

          Kick-off time: 17:30

          Venue: Brisbane Road

Last season ended in heartbreak for Bolton, as they lost 2-0 in the playoff final to Oxford United following a third place finish. They missed out on automatic promotion by five points, which was not helped by three draws in their final five games. This means that it is a fourth consecutive season in League One, and the Trotters will be hoping it’s the last. In the last three campaigns, they have gradually climbed up the table, finishing ninth, fifth and then most recently third. Under manager Ian Evatt, they are in a good position for this rise to continue.

They were amongst the league’s best scorers, their 86 goals only second to Peterborough. Dion Charles was their top scorer with 16, whilst Aaron Collins and Victor Adeboyejo contributed with 12 and 10 respectively. Despite their success, they have still added to their attacking options, bringing in Klaidi Lolos from Crawley Town. Lolos scored 13 goals for his former side as they earned promotion from League Two.

Hosting them is a Leyton Orient side who finished in 11th. This is their second season in the third tier, and fourth under manager Richie Wellens, who won League Two with the club in 2023. They will be hoping to build on their mid-table finish, but will have to get better offensively. Last season, they scored 53 goals, which was the lowest in the top half. Their leading scorer was Ruel Sotiriou with 11, but he has since left the club joining Bristol Rovers. They will need to replace his production, and have done so by bringing in multiple players on loan. Sonny Perkins has joined from Leeds, whilst Charlie Kelman arrives from QPR.

This will be the 47th meeting between these two teams, and it is Bolton who have been the superior side. Leyton Orient have won just 13 of these games, to Bolton’s 21, with 12 draws. Since 2020, they have played against each other four times, twice in League Two and twice in League One. They have recorded two wins each in these games. Last season, Bolton won their home game 3-2, a game in which they were 3-0 up after just 10 minutes. Orient threatened a comeback in the second half, but fell just short. They got their revenge in the reverse fixture, however, as they won 1-0 less than a month later. Dan Agyei scored the winner.

          Team News

          Leyton Orient

Leyton Orient came through their final pre-season games unscathed and hope to have a fully fit squad to choose from at the weekend. New signings Lewis Warrington, Sean Clare and Charlie Kelman played prominent roles in this game and will look to continue doing so.

          Bolton

Aaron Collins returned in the last pre-season game after missing the prior one with a knock. They should have no new injury concerns otherwise heading into the weekend.

          Form Guide

          Leyton Orient:

In their last five games, Leyton Orient have won three and drawn two. It has been a strong pre-season for the O’s as they look ahead to the new League One season. However, they started this run of games with a 2-1 win at Scottish side Hearts. They took an early lead through Liam Boyce, but could not hold on as their visitors turned it around.

One half of the squad took on National League South’s Welling United, and drew 1-1, whilst the other half enjoyed a much more dominant performance, beating St Albans 5-1. Dan Agyei netted four times in this game, with Charlie Kelman also on the scoresheet.

A trip to Spain saw them take on Juventud Torremolinos, but this game ended in a goalless draw. Their most recent game was against Dagenham & Redbridge, in which they won 1-0. A volley from Brandon Cooper proved to be the winning goal.

          Bolton:

In their last five games, Bolton have won two, lost two and drawn one. It has been an inconsistent stretch for Bolton in pre-season, one they will want to put behind them as the League One campaign begins. Last time out they won 3-0 against Port Vale to wrap up their preparations. Aaron Collins, Victor Adeboyejo and Dion Charles were all on the scoresheet.

This followed a narrow 1-0 loss against Stoke City, with a first-half strike from Million Manhoef the slender difference between the two sides. Fiorentina were their prior opponents, and Bolton did well to come away with a draw against a superior side. They fell behind after 20 minutes, but earned a draw thanks to Adeboyejo’s equaliser.

Contrasting results preceded this to start this run of games, as firstly they lost 3-0 to Middlesbrough before beating non-league Chorley 4-0. Aaron Morley and Adeboyejo both scored from the penalty spot, before an own goal and strike from Nelson Khumbeni added to their lead.
