Leeds United are on the lookout for a new manager following their relegation from the Premier League.

The Whites’ three-season stay in the top-flight ended last weekend with a 4-1 loss to Tottenham under the management of No Tippy Tappy Football podcast host, Sam Allardyce. It has since been confirmed by many tabloids that the ex-England and Bolton manager will not be staying at Leeds, despite only managing the club in their last four matches of the Premier League season.

The Elland Road club had four different coaches manage them during the 2022/23 campaign, starting off with Jesse Marsch, but following a poor first half of the season, the ex-Red Bull Leipzig manager was sacked, prompting Leeds to appoint Javi Gracia on a permanent basis after a short Interim stint by Michael Skubala.

However, Gracia’s time at Leeds brought little success, as the Spaniard managed to win just three of his 12 matches in charge.

Former Leeds United Under 23s manager Carlos Corberan is the favourite for the managerial vacancy at Elland Road.

The 40-year-old has been manager of West Bromwich Albion since 25th October and drastically improved the Baggies’ results in the progress, having managed to win 17 and draw five of his 33 matches in charge. If the Spaniard had managed Albion from the start of the campaign then they would’ve likely made the play-off places.

Prior to his current spell at the Hawthorns, Corberan had a disastrous spell at Olympiakos where he won just two of his 11 matches in charge, culminating in the Spaniard being sacked.

Corberan is perhaps best remembered for his time at Huddersfield Town between July 2020 and July 2022, with the Cheste-born coach taking the Terriers from a side that was battling to stay in the Championship, to losing play-off finalists in the space of two seasons.

Ex-Leeds United assistant manager Diego Flores is also rumoured to be under consideration by the club to be their next manager.

The 42-year-old spent three years at Elland Road, having worked alongside Marcelo Bielsa at the likes of Marseille, Lazio and Lille and has since managed Argentinian outfit Godoy Cruz on two separate occasions, but, has been sacked on both occasions since.

Ex-Norwich City manager Daniel Farke has been considered for the vacancy at Leeds, having managed to win the Championship with the Canaries on two separate occasions during the 2018/19 and 2020/21 seasons.

The 46-year-old has been in charge of Borussia Monchengladbach last season, but, was sacked after finishing tenth in the table, seven points adrift of the Europa Conference League qualification place.

Steven Gerrard is one of the favourites for the Leeds job, having been linked to their managerial role on multiple occasions following his dismissal from Aston Villa in late October of last year.

Gerrard’s time at Villa finished badly, as the Villains won just two of their last 12 Premier League fixtures under the former Liverpool midfielder’s management, seeing him have a 32.5% win percentage following 13 wins and eight draws in 40 matches.

The 43-year-old will be keen to have another shot in English football in an attempt to rebuild his career, especially with a side that is expected to challenge for automatic promotion in the Championship.

It is vital for Gerrard that he chooses the right project for himself in order to rebuild his managerial career after his shortcomings at Villa, having previously done so well at Rangers, where he won the Scottish Premiership title at a canter, earning 102 points in the 2020/21 season while conceding just 13 goals.

Scott Parker will be desperate for another opportunity in English football management having been sacked by AFC Bournemouth at the start of the 2022/23 season in the aftermath of the Cherries 9-0 hammering away at Liverpool.

Despite his recent shortcomings in England with Bournemouth, as well as with Club Brugge in Belgium where the 42-year-old lasted just 12 matches, Parker is a good Championship manager, having earned promotion with Fulham via the play-offs in 2019/20, while also finishing as runner-up last campaign with the Cherries, meaning that he has a 100% success rate when it comes to getting promoted from England’s second tier.

In the run-up to the end of the 2022/23 season, reports had emerged that Leeds want to appoint Brendan Rodgers as their next manager, even if they ended up in the Championship.

The Northern Irishman may have been sacked by Leicester, but, it would be a major coup for the Whites, as Rodgers memorably lead the Foxes to FA Cup and Community Shield triumphs in 2021, as well as to back-to-back fifth-placed finishes in 2019/20 and 2020/21.

Rodgers has a good pedigree in general as a manager, having won two domestic trebles with Celtic between 2016 and 2019, while also guiding Liverpool to a second-place finish in 2013/14 after winning the Championship play-offs with Swansea City during the 2010/11 season.

Lee Bowyer is also in contention for the job at Leeds, having been a fan favourite at the club during his playing days between 1996 and 2003.

The former Whites midfielder has plenty of managerial experience, as the 46-year-old managed the Addicks between March 2018 and 2021, winning 64 and drawing 37 of his matches in charge, leading them to promotion to the Championship back in 2018/18 via the play-offs.

Following his spell at Charlton, Bowyer decided to return to his former club Birmingham City in March 2021, where he had a less successful spell with the then cash-strapped club. Bowyer oversaw just 17 wins in 59 matches until the end of his reign in July.

Lorient manager, Regis Le Bris has also been linked to the vacancy at Leeds.

Le Bris’ managerial career started in June 2022 with Lorient, with the 47-year-old overseeing 40 matches in charge of the club, winning 15 and drawing 12, resulting in Les Merlus battling for a top half-of-the-table finish, following a dismal 2021/22 season where they finished just four points above the relegation zone.

Could Le Bris be a shock outsider for the job at Leeds having started his managerial career in a good fashion?

Patrick Vieira is on the lookout for his next managerial job, as the 46-year-old has been without a role since being sacked by Crystal Palace on 17th March following a dismal run of form.

The 1998 World Cup winner had a good reputation at Selhurst Park during the 2021/22 season, as the Eagles recorded a 12th-place finish following a major squad overhaul while managing to reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup, however, during the 2022/23 campaign it all turned sour, with Palace going on a 12-game run without a win, seeing them drop into contention to be relegated from the Premier League before Roy Hodgson's return on an Interim basis.

Vieira has shown potential as a manager, coaching Nice to a seventh-place finish during his first season in charge of the French club in 2018/19, while also leading New York City to a fourth-placed finish in the MLS in their second year as a club.
