Millwall are on the lookout for a new manager following the departure of Gary Rowett from the New Den via mutual termination.

Rowett had been the manager of the Lions since October 2019 and had received a lot of praise for overachieving on a limited budget, having managed to oversee two eighth-placed finishes in 2019/20 and 2022/23.

At present, Millwall are 14th in the Championship, just three points off the play-off places, while Rowett’s record at the club stands at 76 wins and 57 draws in 196 matches, seeing the 49-year-old depart with a 39% win percentage.

Kevin Muscat Odds: 2/1

Ex-Millwall defender Kevin Muscat is the early bookmakers’ favourite for the job having recently missed out on the vacancy at Rangers.

The 50-year-old former Australia international is currently the manager of J-League outfit Yokohama Marinos where he managed to win the league title last season, as well as the 2023 Japanse Super Cup.

Muscat has had a decent managerial career, having also coached Melbourne Victory to the A-League Championship in both 2015 and 2018, as well as leading them to the A-League Premiership title in 2015 along with the FFA Cup.

John Eustace Odds: 7/2

John Eustace is on the search for a new managerial job having been harshly sacked by Birmingham City on 9th October.

The 43-year-old had been linked with the recent vacancy at Rangers, but, had his contract at St Andrew's terminated due to their new owners Shelby Companies Limited wanting a marquee name in charge of the club, hence why Wayne Rooney was appointed as the Blues new manager.

Eustace managed to defy the odds at Birmingham last season, having led them to a 17th-placed finish in the Championship despite them being predicted to finish bottom of the table, while this season, Eustace left the Blues in sixth-place with 18 points from 11 matches.

Michael Beale Odds: 4/1

Former Rangers and QPR manager Michael Beale is also in contention for the job at Millwall.

Beale was previously managed of QPR between June 2022 and November 2022 and had a good start to his managerial career at Loftus Road, having won nine and drawn five of his first 22 games, but, ultimately ruined his reputation with the R’s following his move to Rangers after just over five months in the job.

At Rangers, Beale’s win percentage was actually an impressive one, having won 72% of his matches in charge, however, he was sacked in early October due to overseeing his side suffer three points in seven Scottish Premiership matches.

Nathan Jones Odds: 4/1

Nathan Jones is still on the lookout for a new job following his bizarre spell at Southampton in the 2022/23 season.

The Welshman’s coaching career began at Brighton in 2013, serving as an assistant manager to the likes of Oscar Garcia, Sami Hyypia and Chris Hughton.

As a manager, Jones’ main success was with Luton Town, having earned promotion from League Two with the Hatters in 2016/17 via a second-place finish. The 50-year-old also laid down the foundations for Luton in 2018/19, leaving them second in League One in January before taking the Stoke City job where he won just six of his 38 games in charge.

Jones made a shock return to Luton and turned their Championship fortunes on their head, having helped them survive what looked like an impossible situation towards the end of the 2019/20 season, before overseeing their qualification for the play-offs last season.

Having shown his capabilities with a Luton Town side that were on restricted budgets, could Jones be a good fit for Millwall?

Neil Warnock Odds: 5/1

Neil Warnock is in the running to become Millwall's next manager following his departure from Huddersfield Town on 20th September.

The 74-year-old's most recent spell as manager of the Terriers saw him overachieve, as despite taking over on 16th February 2022 when they were almost certainties to be relegated and at one stage being seven points adrift of safety at one point in March, Warnock managed to achieve an 18th placed finish, resulting in Huddersfield finishing nine points above the drop zone.

Warnock is a legend of the EFL and has managed to achieve a total of eight promotions across his managerial career, with his most recent one being against all odds with Cardiff City in 2017/18 as the Bluebirds finished as runners-up in the Championship.

Adam Barrett Odds: 12/1

Caretaker manager Adam Barrett is a potential outsider to get the job on a permanent basis having coached at Millwall since March 2017 when he joined as a first-team development coach.

This is the second time that the 43-year-old former Southend United defender has been a caretaker manager for the club, having managed three matches in October 2019, earning one win, one draw and one loss, while this time around, Barrett oversaw Millwall's hard-fought 1-1 draw with Preston North End on Saturday.
