Next Southampton Manager Odds

Southampton are on the lookout for a new manager following the sacking of Austrian coach Ralph Hasenhuttl in the aftermath of the Saints' 4-1 loss to Newcastle United at the weekend.

The 55-year-old Austrian coach had been in charge of the Saints since December 2018 following the sacking of Mark Hughes, overseeing 173 matches in charge, winning 59 and drawing 41 of them, ending up with a win percentage of 34%.

Nathan Jones Odds: 1/6

Luton Town manager Nathan Jones is bookmakers’ current favourite for the managerial vacancy at Southampton.

Jones started his coaching career when he returned to Brighton in 2013, serving as an assistant manager to the likes of Oscar Garcia, Sami Hyypia and Chris Hughton, before being demoted to first-team coach by the latter.

As a manager, the majority of Jones’ success has been with Luton Town, having earned promotion from League Two with the Hatters in 2016/17 via a second-place finish. He also laid down the foundations for Luton in 2018/19, leaving them second in League One in January before taking the Stoke City job.

Since returning to Luton after winning just six games in 38 at Stoke, Jones has turned the club’s Championship fortunes on their head, having helped them survive from what looked like an impossible situation towards the end of 2019/20 season, before overseeing their qualification for the play-offs last season.

Jones is priced at 1/6 to make the step up to the Premier League to manage Southampton - Click on the link to claim this bet in your bet slip!

Sean Dyche Odds: 7/1

Former Burnley manager Sean Dyche has also been linked with this job, having done a good job on small budgets during his time with the Clarets.

In his nine years at Turf Moor, Dyche built himself a reputation for being able to manage low-budget sides to success, having earned promotion from the Championship with the Clarets in 2013/14 and 2015/16. During his time at Burnley, Dyche even lead the club to the Europa League qualifying stages following a seventh-place finish in the 2017/18 campaign.

On top of this, Dyche also tended to play 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 with a pressing style of play at Turf Moor, something that he could replicate well if given the opportunity to do so at Southampton, where he’d arguably have a much bigger budget to develop the squad.

Dyche is priced at 7/1 to become Southampton’s next manager.

Marcelo Gallardo Odds: 12/1

Former River Plate manager Marcelo Gallardo is another managerial name that has been touted for the job, despite being yet to prove himself on the European stage. However, could the Saints be the ones to try Gallardo, having given the likes of Pochettino and Pellegrino chances in the Premier League?

Gallardo has had a successful managerial career back in his homeland of Argentina with River Plate, who he played for during his playing days.

The 46-year-old’s managerial career actually started at Nacional in Uruguay where he won the Primera Division in his first and only season in charge.

Gallardo’s next job would be at River Plate, where he would go down in the club’s history as an iconic figure, having won the Copa Sudamericana in his first year, before winning the Copa Libertadores in 2015 and 2018 on top of the 11 other major trophies.

Southampton are priced at 12/1 to appoint Gallardo as Hasenhuttl’s successor.

Mauricio Pochettino Odds: 14/1

Mauricio Pochettino is priced at 14/1 to make a sensational return to Southampton.

The 50-year-old was most recently manager of PSG and has missed out on a series of big jobs since his exit from the Parc des Princes.

Pochettino managed Southampton between January 2013 and May 2014, taking over from Nigel Adkins, laying the foundations for the Saints to challenge for Europe on a regular basis, having developed the likes of Adam Lallana, Jay Rodriguez, Jose Fonte, Toby Alderweireld, Morgan Schneiderlin and more.

Since his time at St Mary’s Pochettino went on to manage Tottenham, where he elevated them from Europa League fodder to a side that regularly competed for Champions League football - notably reaching the Champions League final in 2019.

Following his time at Spurs, Pochettino returned to former club PSG, where he managed to win three trophies in two years, but, this and his lack of success in the Champions League saw patience wear thin between himself and the PSG hierarchy, resulting in his departure last summer.

Pochettino is priced at 14/1 to make a shock return to St Mary’s as Southampton’s next manager.

Kjetil Knutsen Odds: 20/1

Bodo/Glimt manager Kjetil Knutsen is also on this list of managers who has been linked to the vacancy at Southampton.

Down the years, Southampton have been known for making smart and innovative decisions when it comes to recruitment, perhaps Knutsen could be the latest manager to join the St Mary’s Club.

Knutsen’s name came to stardom when his side Bodo/Glit side thrashed AS Roma 6-1 in the Europa Conference league last season, before defeating the Serie A outfit 2-1 at the Stadio Olimpico. The 53-year-old has won Eliteserien manager of the year in each of the last three seasons and led his side to a league title in 2020 and 2021.

This could potentially be a smart move by Southampton due to the success that the Norwegian has found when developing players both in his homeland and in European competitions.

Could Knutsen become the eighth Norwegian to join the Saints, after the likes of Claus Lunkdevam, Stig Johansen and Mohamed Elyounoussi?

Knutsen is priced at 20/1 to follow Johansen’s footsteps in joining Southampton from Bodo/Glimt.
