Ryan Lowe’s Odds: 2/1

Schumacher’s former colleague at Plymouth Argyle, Ryan Lowe, is the front-runner for the vacancy at the Bet365 Stadium.

Lowe departed Preston just one game into the 2024/25 season having felt as though he’d taken the Lilywhites as far as he could. During his time at Deepdale, the 45-year-old managed 13th, 12th and 10th-place finishes.

Prior to his spell at North End, Lowe had successful spells at Bury and Plymouth Argyle, managing to earn promotion from League Two in back-to-back seasons with each club having departed Gigg Lane in June 2019 due to their financial demise.

Nigel Pearson’s Odds: 5/1

Nigel Pearson is a name that has cropped up among potential candidates to take over at Stoke.

The 61-year-old was sacked by Bristol City last season having managed the Robins 131 times, winning 42 and drawing 32, equating to a win percentage of 32%.

Pearson is fondly remembered by fans of Leicester City, having guided the Foxes to promotions from League One in 2008/09 as well as the Championship during his second spell at the King Power Stadium in 2013/14.

Ultimately, Pearson set the Foxes up with the core of their memorable Premier League title-winning side having acquired the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Danny Drinkwater, Kasper Schmeichel, Jamie Vardy and more.

Frank Lampard’s Odds: 8/1

Could Frank Lampard be about to make a return to management with Stoke following his disastrous interim spell in charge of Chelsea during the 2022/23 campaign?

The 45-year-old took charge of 11 games in the 2022/23 season at Stamford Bridge, winning just once, while his previous spell before that between July 2019 and January 2021 saw Chelsea win just 44 of his 84 games in charge.

Lampard also managed Everton from January 2022 and January 2023, helping to keep the Toffees up in his first half a season in charge before regressing, finishing with a 27% win percentage at Goodison Park.

Before this, he had been manager of Derby County for one season, reaching the Championship play-off final in 2018/19, however, the Rams were beaten by Aston Villa and Lampard left Pride Park to join Chelsea.

Graham Potter’s Odds: 10/1

Fourth favourite for the job at Stoke is Graham Potter. The Englishman last took charge of Chelsea in April 2023, where he lasted just seven months following his switch from Brighton to London.

Prior to joining Chelsea, Potter was one of the most highly regarded managers in the Premier League and many believed it was only a matter of time before he was poached by a bigger club. He won 42 games at Brighton and guided them to a ninth-place finish. His longest managerial stint was with Swedish club Östersund, who he managed between 2011 and 2018. He then returned to the UK with Swansea before being appointed by Brighton.

Potter’s time in charge of Chelsea was a disaster, as he won just seven Premier League games and left the Blues in 11th, 14 points off the top four. He is reportedly waiting for the right job, having been linked to a number of clubs since his departure.

Michael Beale’s Odds: 10/1

Former Rangers, QPR and Sunderland manager Michael Beale is also in contention for the job at Stoke.

Beale was previously manager of QPR between June 2022 and November 2022 and had a good start to his managerial career at Loftus Road, having won nine and drawn five of his first 22 games, but, ultimately ruined his reputation with the R’s following his move to Rangers after just over five months in the job.

At Rangers, Beale’s win percentage was actually an impressive one, having won 72% of his matches in charge, however, he was sacked in early October due to overseeing his side suffer three points in seven Scottish Premiership matches.

Following his spell in Scotland, Beale moved to Sunderland where he would have a torrid time, as following his appointment at the Stadium of Light in December 2023, he would last for just 12 matches, winning four times, drawing twice while suffering six defeats in the process before being sacked.

Charlie Adam’s Odds: 12/1

Ex-Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam is an outsider for the job at the Bet365 Stadium.

The 38-year-old Scot currently manages Fleetwood Town who sit 12th in League Two with eight points from five matches.

Adam’s senior managerial career started with the Cod Army back in December 2023 while they were in a fairly desperate situation in League One, as they’d gone on a nine-game winless streak and look destined for relegation. The Scot was unable to save Fleetwood from fourth-tier football as they finished just three points behind 20th-place Burton Albion.
