Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace Prediction

Crystal Palace are in the relegation zone after a tough start to the season and we expect this to continue at Aston Villa. However, neither side are in particularly stellar form heading into this game, with Villa winless in their previous five, including four defeats. Palace have won two of their previous four in all competitions.

The Eagles are yet to win on their travels in the Premier League this season, with three defeats and two draws, whilst Villa have lost just once on home soil. They are unbeaten in their last four at Villa Park. There have been no clean sheets for either side in each of their last three, and in this fixture, both teams have scored in six of the previous eight meetings – Aston Villa 2-1 Crystal Palace

Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace: Preview & Prediction

Aston Villa host Crystal Palace in a Premier League game which could be crucial at both ends of the table.

          Date: 23/11/24

          Kick-off time: 15:00

          Venue: Villa Park

After a top four finish last season, Aston Villa will be hoping for a repeat to ensure a second consecutive year of Champions League football. Eleven games in, they are well in the mix to threaten and fight for a place in Europe’s premier competition. Whilst they sit in ninth place, they are just one point adrift of third, highlighting how condensed the current table is.

It has been a different story for Crystal Palace, who look like they will be aiming for Premier League survival. This is not what they expected heading into the campaign under Oliver Glasner. Following defeat in their most recent game against Fulham, the Eagles occupy 18th place, though are just one point from safety. When they won their first game of the season against Tottenham three weeks ago it could have sparked the side, but they have gone winless in their two fixtures since.

A trip to face Villa means it does not get any easier for Glasner’s side as they look to avoid falling further behind in the relegation battle. However, they could take advantage of a side who have shown some vulnerabilities of late, as Villa have not won in five games, including four consecutive losses. Alternatively, this fixture provides the hosts a great opportunity to get back on track.

Despite Villa’s recent struggles, they have plenty of talent to hurt Palace. Ollie Watkins had a slow start, but he now leads the team with five goals. Jhon Duran has provided a huge threat off the bench whilst Morgan Rogers has also emerged as a key contributor.

Goals have been hard to come by for Palace with only Southampton scoring fewer than their eight. Jean-Phillipe Mateta has not yet hit the form he did last season, and new signing Eddie Nketiah has failed to get off the mark so far. They will also be without Eberechi Eze through injury, which limits them even further.

There have been nine Premier League meetings between these two sides since 2020. Villa have edged the head-to-head in this period with five wins to Palace’s three and a draw. Last season, Villa were on the end of a crushing 5-0 loss at Selhurst Park, though won the reverse fixture 3-1 at home. They have already played each other once this season in the EFL Cup, which saw Palace eliminate their opponents with a 2-1 win.

          Where to Watch

          Team News

          Aston Villa

Aston Villa could have an almost fully fit squad for this game. Jacob Ramsey is set to be the only absentee as he deals with a hamstring injury. Ross Barkley, Matty Cash and Boubacar Kamara are all expected to return.

          Crystal Palace

Daichi Kamada will miss out through suspension after picking up a red card last time out. Will Hughes can return after serving a one-game ban. Eberechi Eze and Adam Wharton are expected back this month, but this game comes too soon.

          Form Guide

          Aston Villa:

In their last five games, Aston Villa have drawn one and lost four. It has been a terrible stretch for Villa in which they have picked up no wins. This run started with their only draw as they were held 1-1 by Bournemouth at home. A 96th minute leveller from Evanilson cancelled out an earlier Ross Barkley strike.

They were eliminated from the EFL Cup by a 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace. Eberechi Eze opened the scoring early before Jhon Duran equalised shortly after. Daichi Kamada scored the winner in the second half. A return to Premier League action saw them travel to Tottenham. They lost 4-1, despite taking the lead through Morgan Rogers. Goals from Brennan Johnson, Dominic Solanke (x2) and James Maddison turned it around.

A Champions League tie at Club Brugge followed, but they lost 1-0 in bizarre fashion. Tyrone Mings conceded a penalty after purposefully handling the ball to take a goal kick. This was ultimately the deciding moment in the game. Villa’s latest game was a fourth consecutive loss, this time 2-0 at Anfield against Liverpool. Darwin Nunez and Mo Salah were the goalscorers.

          Crystal Palace:

In their last five games, Crystal Palace have won two, lost two and drawn one. After a disastrous start to the season, Palace have slightly improved in recent weeks. However, this run started and ended with defeats. The first was a 1-0 loss at Nottingham Forest. It was a very even affair between the pair, but a Chris Wood second half strike proved the difference. Their most recent game was a 2-0 loss at home to Fulham. Emile Smith-Rowe and Harry Wilson were the scorers as Daichi Kamada saw red.

Despite the losses, they did pick up their first win of the campaign against Tottenham. Jean-Philippe Mateta was the scorer of the crucial goal. They made it two in a row as they eliminated Aston Villa from the EFL Cup. Eberechi Eze and Kamada scored either side of a Jhon Duran equaliser.

A trip to Wolves saw them come away with a point following a 2-2 draw. Trevoh Chalobah opened the scoring before the hosts quickly turned it around. Marc Guehi scored the equaliser with 13 minutes to go.
