Leicester vs Everton Prediction

Leicester and Everton face off in a crucial game at the bottom of the table. The two sides have been involved in high-scoring games as of late. The hosts drew 2-2 with Crystal Palace last time out whilst Everton have lost consecutive games 3-2 against Bournemouth and Aston Villa. 2-0 leads were squandered in all of these games.

This fixture should provide goals as each of the previous five meetings between the teams has featured over 2.5 goals. Everton are without a clean sheet in their previous five against Leicester, though they have been the first to score in five of the previous seven against the Foxes – Leicester 3-2 Everton

Leicester vs Everton: Preview & Prediction

Everton travel to face Leicester in what will be a very important early season clash at the bottom of the Premier League table.

Date: 21/09/24

Kick-off time: 15:00

Venue: King Power Stadium

After winning the Championship last season, Leicester’s main aim this year is to maintain their top flight status. They are under new manager Steve Cooper as they lost Enzo Maresca to Chelsea, and already face a huge game just five games in. It has been a tricky start for the Foxes, with two points from a possible 12. They were denied a win at the death last time out as a late penalty for Crystal Palace earned them a 2-2 draw.

They face an Everton side who have endured a disastrous start to the campaign, stranded at the bottom of the table with four losses in four games. Despite the season being just a month in, it could be considered a must win. Sean Dyche’s side will rue the fact they have yet to pick up a point, especially as they were 2-0 up after 87 minutes in their last home game against Bournemouth. It was a historic collapse which does not bode well going forward. In fact, they blew another two-goal lead in their latest game, against Aston Villa, which they also lost 3-2. Although it is early in the season, defeat for either side could leave them with an uphill battle to climb in terms of survival. It provides a huge opportunity for both to pick up some points against a fellow relegation contender.

This could be a game to provide goals considering the weaknesses of both sides at the back. In four games so far, neither have kept a clean sheet. Everton have been far worse, however, conceding 13 whilst Leicester have allowed seven.

Last season, Jamie Vardy led the way for the Foxes with 18 goals. He got off the mark this year in the opener against Tottenham, and netted his second in the last game. He should get some help up top from Odsonne Edouard, who could make his debut on loan from Crystal Palace. The striker scored seven goals in 30 games last season and could provide some much needed help.

The visitors are led by Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has scored twice so far. He scored just seven times last season, and as a team Everton netted 40. Only bottom side Sheffield United scored fewer. These issues show little signs of improving this time around, and there is more pressure on them to deliver in attack given the state of their defence. They signed striker Armando Broja from Chelsea to bolster their options, but he is still sidelined through injury.

Since 2020, these two teams have played each other seven times in the Premier League. It is a fixture in which Leicester have not seen much success in recent years, winning just once in this stretch. Everton have won three times with three draws. However, in the last five meetings they have won one apiece. The most recent game between the pair was in May 2023, which ended in a 2-2 draw at the King Power. Both teams took first half leads, but the points were ultimately shared after Alex Iwobi scored an equaliser for the Toffees shortly into the second half.

Where to Watch

Leicester vs Everton will not be available to watch on TV in the UK.

Team News

Leicester

Odsonne Edouard could be set to make his Leicester debut after he was ineligible to play against his parent club Crystal Palace last time out. The only two players who are ruled out are Jakub Stolarczyk and Patson Daka, both long-term absentees.

Everton

Jarrad Branthwaite and Nathan Patterson are nearing returns this month, but this weekend’s game is thought to come too soon. New loan signing Armando Broja arrived with an injury which is expected to keep him out until mid-October. Seamus Coleman will be assessed ahead of the game.

Form Guide

Leicester:

In their last five games, Leicester have won two, drawn two and lost one. It has been a tough return to life in the Premier League for the Foxes, but they made a good start with a 1-1 draw at home to Tottenham in their opener. The visitors dominated in the first half but were only able to score one through Pedro Porro. Leicester managed to hang on and found an equaliser from Jamie Vardy shortly into the second half.

They followed this with a trip to Fulham, where they lost 2-1. An Emile Smith-Rowe goal put them behind early, but Wout Faes levelled the score before the break. Alex Iwobi scored the winner with 20 minutes to go. Finally, they picked up their first win of the season in the EFL Cup second round. They recorded a 4-0 victory against Tranmere with goals from Jordan Ayew, Stephy Mavididi, Wilfred Ndidi and Harry Winks.

Before the international break, they welcomed Aston Villa to the King Power. It resulted in another defeat as Amadou Onana and Jhon Duran scored either side of half-time. Facundo Buonanotte halved the deficit but his side were unable to complete a comeback. Their most recent game was a trip to Crystal Palace. They were held to a 2-2 draw despite going 2-0 up. Vardy and Mavididi put them ahead, before Jean-Phillipe Mateta pulled one back. Mateta then scored a penalty in stoppage time to level it up.

Everton:

In their last five games, Everton have won one and lost four. It has been a disastrous start to the season for the Toffees, and this continued in their last game at Aston Villa. They lost 3-2, making it four defeats on the season. Goals from Dwight McNeil and Dominic Calvert-Lewin put them two in front, but the hosts fought back and took the lead through a stunning strike from Jhon Duran.

This followed another 3-2 home loss against Bournemouth prior to the international break. Goals from Michael Keane and Calvert-Lewin put them 2-0 up, a cushion they would hold until the 87th minute. Three goals in nine minutes, including two in stoppage time, completed a dramatic turnaround for the visitors.

Everton’s only win in this stretch came in the EFL Cup second round, where they beat Doncaster 3-0. Dwight McNeil, Iliman Ndiaye and Beto were on the scoresheet. The first two games of the league season ended in defeat. At home to Brighton, they lost 3-0, before a trip to Tottenham ended in a 4-0 thrashing.
