Liverpool vs Brighton Prediction & Betting Tips

Anfield welcomes Liverpool and Brighton this Sunday in the early kick off in the Premier League. Liverpool look to take the top spot in the Premier League, whereas Brighton look to leapfrog West Ham and reel in Manchester United.

          Date: 31/03/2024

          Kick off time: 14:00

          Location: Anfield

The title race is heating up with just ten games to go, with just one point separating three sides. However, Brighton find themselves in the race for European football again, looking to win another season in the Europa League.

Liverpool currently sit second in the Premier League after 28 games. The Reds have 19 wins, seven draws and two losses, leaving them on 64 points, equal with top of the league Arsenal and one point above Manchester City.

The Reds have been on fire in front of goal this season, scoring 65 goals in 28 games, an average of 2.32 goals a game. Liverpool have been just as consistent at the other end of the pitch. The Reds have conceded just 26 goals and have kept nine clean sheets.

Brighton, on the other hand, currently sit eighth in the Premier League. In 28 games, The Seagulls have 11 wins, nine draws and eight losses which leaves them on 42 points, two points behind seventh-place West Ham and five points behind Man United.

The Seagulls have been amongst the goals this season. In 28 games, Brighton have scored 50 goals which gives them an average of 1.79 goals a game. However, Brighton have faltered defensively, conceding 44 goals but keeping eight clean sheets.

This will be the 40th meeting between Liverpool and Brighton, with the first meeting coming back in the 1908 FA Cup. Liverpool have the better record in the fixture with 20 wins in comparison to Brighton’s seven wins. In fact, a draw is more common than a Brighton win, happening on 12 occasions.

However, the last five meetings between the two sides have only seen one Liverpool win, with Bright winning twice and points being shared twice. Also in the last five games, both teams have been on the scoresheet three times.

          Recent Form

In their last five games in all competitions, Liverpool have three wins, one draw and one loss.

Nunez scored the only goal of the game for Liverpool in the 99th minute to give them the controversial 1 - 0 win over Nottingham Forest, as Liverpool only managed two shots on target in 22 attempts.

In the first leg of the Europa League Round of 16, Liverpool travelled to the Czech Republic to take on Sparta Prague. A penalty from Alexis Mac Allister and a brace from Nunez gave Liverpool the 3 - 0 lead at halftime. An own goal from Conor Bradley got Sparta Prague on the scoresheet a minute into the second half but goals from Diaz and Dominik Szoboszlai secured the 5 - 1 win for Liverpool.

Back in the Premier League, it was a big game at the top of the table as Liverpool took on Man City. John Stones gave City the lead at halftime but another penalty from Mac Allister drew Liverpool level early in the second half. Neither side could find another goal and the game finished in a 1 - 1 draw.

The second leg of the Europa League Round of 16 saw Liverpool host Sparta Prague. Nunez, Bobby Clark and Mo Salah all scored before the ten minute mark and Gakpo scored to make it 4 - 0 before half an hour. Veljko Birmancevic got Sparta Prague on the scoresheet but another goal from Gakpo and a goal from Szoboszlai secured the 6 - 1 win on the night and a 11 - 2 win on aggregate.

The FA Cup Quarter Final was a seven goal thriller against Manchester United. Scott McTominay opened the scoring for United but Mac Allister made it level and Salah scored to give Liverpool the lead at halftime. Antony’s goal sent it to extra time, where Harvey Elliot regained the lead for Liverpool. But late goals from Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo gave United the 4 - 3 win.

In their last five games in all competitions, Brighton have two wins and three losses.

In the Fifth Round of the FA Cup, Brighton took on fellow Premier League side Wolves. Mario Lemina’s goal in the second minute was the only goal of the game and despite having 72% of the possession, Brighton couldn’t convert any of their two shots on target and slumped to a 1 - 0 loss.

Back in the Premier League, Brighton faced Fulham. Harry Wilson and Rodrigo Muniz gave Fulham the 2 - 0 lead at halftime and Adama Traore added a third in extra time to give Fulham the 3 - 0 win.

In the first leg of the Europa League Round of 16, Brighton travelled to Italy to take on Roma. Paulo Dybala, Romelu Lukaku, Gianluca Mancini and Bryan Cristante all scored to give Roma the 4 - 0 win.

Brighton bounced back finally, against Nottingham Forest. An own goal from Andrew Omobamidele was the only goal of the game in a 1 - 0 win for The Seagulls.

The most recent outing for Brighton was the second leg of the Europa League Round of 16 against Roma. Danny Welbeck scored in the first half to give Brighton the 1 - 0 win, though they would still lose 4 - 1 on aggregate.
