Barring a miraculous escape, Vincent Kompany’s Burnley side seem destined for an immediate return to the Championship. They are currently second bottom, 11 points from safety with 11 games remaining. It may not be officially over, but every game is now a must-win for the Clarets.

The Hammers, in contrast, are hoping that their recent woes are behind them following two consecutive wins against Brentford and Brighton. Prior to these victories, they had not won in eight games in all competitions, a run of form which saw them slide down the table. They now sit in seventh, just two points adrift of Man United in sixth. A win in this game could see them climb the standings again should other results go their way. Defeat would open the door for a host of teams below to gain ground.

As they come up against the league’s second-worst defence, West Ham should be confident of adding some more goals to their total. This season they have scored 43 times, with 14 of them coming from Jarrod Bowen. This includes a hat-trick against Brentford last week. Burnley will be hoping to get some more production out of their January signing David Datro Fofana, who has scored twice since his arrival.

Since 2014, the two sides have met 15 times in the Premier League. West Ham have enjoyed more success, winning eight to Burnley’s four. The visitors have not won a game against this weekend’s opponents since 2020, meaning they are winless in five. The reverse fixture earlier this season ended in David Moyes’ side’s favour. It was a narrow 2-1 victory that was secured in dramatic fashion. Burnley took the lead through a Jay Rodriguez penalty just after the restart, and held the lead up until five minutes remaining. Dara O’Shea put the ball in his own net before Tomas Soucek grabbed the winner in stoppage time to turn it around.

          West Ham Team News

David Moyes has an almost fully fit squad to choose from. Lucas Paqueta recently returned to full fitness which was a huge boost. Only Maxwell Cornet remains out with a hamstring injury, though his return should not be far away.

          Burnley Team News

Josh Brownhill will be eligible to make a return from suspension. Burnley have a few long-term absentees with no imminent returns.

          Form Guide

          West Ham Form Guide:

In their last six games, West Ham have won two and lost four. After going through a dreadful run of form, the Hammers have recently recovered to win two in a row. Last weekend saw them take all three points late on as they beat Everton 3-1 at Goodison Park. Beto had given the hosts the lead in the 56th minute, having missed a penalty earlier in the game. Kurt Zouma equalised just six minutes later. The game looked to be heading for a draw, but Tomas Soucek stepped up in stoppage time to win the game. Edson Alvarez added another shortly after. This followed a 4-2 win at home to Brentford, a result which snapped an eight-game winless run for David Moyes’ side. Jarrod Bowen scored twice in the opening seven minutes to give them the perfect start. Neal Maupay pulled one back six minutes later to make it a game. Bowen completed his hat-trick before a stunning strike from Emerson put the game to bed. Yoane Wissa got another back, but it was too late to stage a comeback.

The three defeats before they returned to winning ways saw West Ham concede 11 goals and score zero. It started with a 3-0 loss at Old Trafford, with Man United’s goals coming from Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho. They were then crushed 6-0 at home to Arsenal in what was the worst defeat and performance of the season. Finally, their last defeat came at Nottingham Forest as they lost 2-0. They conceded a goal deep in stoppage time in each half. They were also playing with a man less for the final 20 minutes as Kalvin Phillips saw red.

West Ham suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat away at Freiburg on Thursday night as Michael Gregoritsch scored an 81st-minute winner.

          Burnley Form Guide:

In their last five games, Burnley have lost four and drawn one. Vincent Kompany’s strugglers are winless in nine league games, a streak that continued at the weekend as they hosted Bournemouth. They got off to a bright start, but fell 2-0 with goals from Justin Kluivert and Antoine Semenyo.

This followed a 3-0 defeat at Crystal Palace, a game which was made even tougher after Josh Brownhill was sent off after 35 minutes. They managed to hold Palace until the 68th minute, when Chris Richards opened the scoring. The lead was soon doubled as Jordan Ayew found the net three minutes later. The rout was completed by Jean-Philippe Mateta from the spot. They welcomed title-challenging Arsenal to Turf Moor the week prior, but were completely dominated and overwhelmed by the Gunners. The Clarets were behind after just four minutes, and were two down at half-time. The visitors eventually won 5-0.

They put up a much better fight against Liverpool at Anfield, though it still ended in the same result. Diogo Jota broke the deadlock after half an hour, but Dara O’Shea silenced the home fans on the stroke of half-time. Unfortunately, they could not see it through as Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez restored the lead.

New loan signing David Datro Fofana made an excellent introduction as he helped his side salvage a point at home to Fulham. Joao Palhinha and Rodrigo Muniz gave the visitors a lead at the break, but Fofana scored a brace to peg them back and earn a draw.
