West Ham vs Ipswich Town Prediction

On paper, this game will be tough to call between two teams chasing a win in recent weeks. Ipswich Town have no losses in their last four, after drawing their last four fixtures - their first two fixtures provided a difficult opening with two defeats to Liverpool and Manchester City. Neither side has a win in their previous five, despite Ipswich remaining unbeaten in their previous four.

Both teams have scored in West Ham's four of their previous five and five of the previous six involving Ipswich Town. West Ham are without a clean sheet in their previous five and have conceded first in four of their last five. In the last five meetings between the two teams, four have seen both teams score.

For this game, we are leaning towards a draw and a high scoring one at that. Ipswich have shown goals won’t be an issue with their recent high-scoring draw against Aston Villa. West Ham’s defensive troubles will give the Tractor Boys a sense of optimism, although West Ham still has quality players on their side that can hurt Kieran McKenna’s side.

West Ham United 2-2 Ipswich Town.

West Ham vs Ipswich Town Preview & Prediction

The final Premier League fixtures before the International break takes place this weekend as the table begins to take shape. West Ham United hosts an Ipswich Town side, still seeking their first Premier League victory since 2002.

            Date: 05/10/2024
            Location: London Stadium
            Kick-Off: 3 pm

West Ham United have an auspicious start to the season under the new regime of Julen Lopetegui, as the Hammers sit in 14th place after six games. The home side have only won once in their first six games this season, with that being a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace in a massive, important London Derby. Since then, however, the Irons have found their league form slumbered as no wins in their previous five sit the East London side, only two points clear of the relegation zone. Lopetegui’s side has scored six goals this season and conceded ten, with that only recording 0.8 points per game.

Ipswich Town had seemingly begun life in the Premier League, with arguably the toughest of starts of any newly promoted side. Consecutive defeats against Liverpool and Manchester City, had many questioning the Tractor Boys’ chances this season of survival. Kieran McKenna has shown tactical acumen in guiding the visitors to four draws in their previous four games. Ipswich Town, have scored five and conceded ten in their first six Premier League fixtures.
The two last met whilst both sides were in the Championship in 2013. Ipswich Town were victorious on this occasion with a resounding 5-1 win over the Hammers at Portman Road.

            Form Guide

As mentioned, West Ham United are on a slightly disappointing run for the Hammers faithful, as West Ham United are winless and without a clean sheet in their last five. The recent head-to-head meetings between the two teams, favour the hosts as West Ham United are unbeaten in their previous four against the Tractor Boys. Neither side has kept a clean sheet in their last three meetings against each other, with the Hammers also beating Ipswich Town in the previous home game against the away side.

In their previous home game, West Ham United were humbled by a Chelsea side in a rich vein of form and ultimately lost 3-0 to their West London rivals. Their most recent fixture took them back to London once again, as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Brentford. The Bees scored in the first minute through Byran Mbeumo, however, the Hammers equalised ten minutes after the second-half restart through Tomas Soucek.

Despite not obtaining a victory yet this season, Ipswich Town’s run of four without a loss has shown great signs for Kieran McKenna. Ipswich Town are winless in their three away fixtures this season, although they have remained unbeaten in their last two games away from Portman Road.

Ipswich were excellent in their most recent fixture against Aston Villa. Liam Delap gave the Tractor Boys the lead in the first ten minutes until goals from Ollie Watkins and Morgan Rogers gave Villa the lead. Liam Delap grabbed his second goal with 18 minutes to go, with a brilliant solo run and finish into the bottom right corner.
