Wolves vs Nottingham Forest Prediction

Despite the recent upturn in form produced by Wolverhampton Wanderers, we can’t see anything past a win for a Nottingham Forest side that are enjoying the season of their lives.

Wolves have looked impressive in recent games following their decision to appoint Vitor Pereira. The hosts are unbeaten in their previous three, with two wins and a draw—including an impressive 2-2 draw away at Tottenham Hotspur. Nottingham Forest has been sensational this season. The visitors sit inside the top four following five consecutive wins.

A key to their success has been their defence. The Reds have kept three successive clean sheets and have conceded 19 goals this season. Nottingham Forest has been the first to score in four of their previous five games and in four of the last five meetings between the two teams.

Expect a close game between the two sides, although we are leaning towards a win for Nuno Espirito Santo against his former employers. We predict a 1-0 win for the European chasing visitors.

Wolves 0-1 Nottingham Forest

Wolves vs Nottingham Forest Preview & Prediction

Wolves will be hoping some of that new manager bounce will be in effect when Nuno Espirito Santo visits his former employers on Monday evening.

Date: 06/01/2025
Location: Molineux, Wolverhampton.
Kick-Off: 8 pm

The decision to remove Gary O’Neill as Wolverhampton Wanderers manager came at a fortuitous time for everyone involved at the club, and now the hosts are reaping the rewards of Vitor Pereira's managerial appointment. The former Porto manager has so far remained unbeaten during his time at the club, and recent performances have moved the home side away from the relegation pack after being deemed to be facing an impending relegation at the hands of the previous manager.

Wolves are currently 17th in the Premier League after 19 games played. After the weekend’s results, the home side are now only a point above the relegation zone, following Ipswich Town’s stunning victory over Chelsea. A win for Wolves against an excellent Nottingham Forest would move the hosts potentially into 16th but Everton would have a game in hand over them.

Speaking of Nottingham Forest, the City Ground faithful are living in dreamland under Nuno Espirito Santo, who makes the trip to take on his former employers. This season, the club has confounded expectations as they are amid a potential claim for a UEFA Champions League place, with players deemed not good enough for bigger clubs, such as Anthony Elanga (Manchester United) and Ola Aina (Chelsea). Nottingham Forest are also the only team to secure three points against runaway league leaders Liverpool this season.

As it stands, Nottingham Forest are second in the Premier League, although they could be third before the weekend with Arsenal playing Brentford. Despite any result, the visitors will retain their place in the top four, as the Reds have a five-point advantage over Newcastle United in fifth place. Nottingham Forest have amassed 37 points from 19 games, almost giving them a two points per game average.

The league meeting in August resulted in a 1-1 draw with two first-half goals from Chris Wood (Nottingham Forest) & Jean-Ricner Bellegarde (Wolves).

Where to watch

The game will be available to watch on Sky Sports Premier League and Sky Sports Main Event.

Team News

Matheus Cunha will be suspended for this fixture, and Mario Lemina is expected to miss out on injury concerns.

Nottingham Forest have three injury worries, with Danilo, Murillo and Ibrahim Sangare expected not to feature against Wolves.

Form Guide

The recent meetings between the two sides, would suggest that a draw could potentially be on the cards between the two teams. The last four league meetings between the two teams have resulted in a stalemate between the two teams. Interestingly, there have been no goalless games between the two teams in any league meetings stretching back to prior to 2008. The last victory recorded in this fixture was in 2022, when Wolves recorded a 1-0 win thanks to a goal from Ruben Neves (penalty).

Sometimes, a new manager can make all the difference to an underperforming team, and with Wolves, that is most certainly the case. Since the 2-1 defeat to Ipswich Town, Wolves have remained unbeaten in their previous three under Vitor Pereira. Impressive victories against Leicester City (0-3) & Manchester United (2-0) have now given the hosts a great platform to build on going forward.

Wolves recorded a win against Manchester United in their most recent home game. Some ill-disciplined behaviour from Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes aided the hosts, who duly took advantage as Matheus Cunha scored directly from a corner. Hwang Hee-chan secured the win late for Wolves, putting more misery on Manchester United.

As for Nottingham Forest, they have been sensational this season. The visitors sit inside the top four following five consecutive wins, in which three have come away from home against Manchester United (2-3), Brentford (0-2) & Everton (0-2). Nottingham Forest have also recorded home victories against the likes of Aston Villa (2-1) and Tottenham Hotspur (1-0) during this run of five unbeaten.

A key to their success has been their defence. The Reds have kept three successive clean sheets and have conceded 19 goals this season. In their most recent game, Forest produced some of the best football you are likely to see all season, as typified by their first goal through Chris Wood. A second-half goal from Morgan Gibbs-White secured the 2-0 win against Everton.
