The Champions League Top Scorer Race is Anybody's to Win

At present Erling Haaland is the joint top scorer in the competition with six goals in four Champions League matches, having scored four in two games against Club Brugge, whilst also scoring against Zenit and Lazio.

Lewandowski has the odds of 9/2 to retain his status as the holder of the UEFA Champions League Golden Boot, as he scored 15 in last year’s competition, as Bayern completed the treble.

Brazil and PSG star Neymar is next on the list, having scored six goals in the group stages of the competition, following a hattrick against Istanbul Basaksehir on matchday six in Group H, as well as a double against Manchester United at Old Trafford, and the winner in his side’s 1-0 victory over RB Leipzig at the Parc des Princes.

The 28-year-old will meet his former club Barcelona in the group stages where the Parisians will fancy their chances over two legs, however with the likes of Lionel Messi on the opposition line-up there are no certainties in this competition, hence why the Brazilian’s odds are higher than the likes of Haaland’s and Lewandowski’s.

PSG made it to the final of the competition last season under Thomas Tuchel, and if they are to go one step further this season then they will need Neymar to replicate his form in the latter stages of the group stages in the knockout rounds.

Neymar is priced at 11/2 to finish as the top scorer in this season’s competition.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the top scorer in Champions League history, having found the back of the net 134 times in 174 matches.

The Portuguese striker has started this season like a house on fire, scoring 23 goals in 24 appearances, including four in the Champions League having scored against Ferencvaros and Dynamo Kyiv, before netting a brace at the Nou Camp on matchday six of Group G.

Juventus have been drawn against FC Porto in the next round of the competition and are firm favourites to progress through to the quarter-finals, as the Portuguese outfit are regarded as the weakest opposition to be left in the competition.

Ronaldo is priced at 13/2 to get the Champions League Golden Boot for a seventh time.

Fellow Juventus striker Alvaro Morata is also in the frame to compete for the Champions League Golden Boot, as the former Atletico Madrid striker scored six goals in six group stage matches.

Morata alike Ronaldo has the chance to boost his tally against the likes of Porto in the round of 16 and could pose a surprise threat to the likes of Haaland having scored the same number of goals as the Norwegian in this season’s competition.

The Spaniard is priced at 10/1 to finish as the top scorer in Europe’s most prestigious competition.

Last on this list is Barcelona’s, Lionel Messi. The Argentinian has scored three goals in the Champions League this campaign against the likes of Ferencvaros, Juventus and Dynamo Kyiv in the group stages, however, his side have been drawn against PSG as mentioned above.

If Barcelona are to advance past last year’s finalists, then the Argentinian will have to be on top form, as this campaign has been a turbulent one under the management of Ronald Koeman, whose side are currently eight points behind league leaders Atletico Madrid in La Liga, having played a game more.

Messi is priced at 12/1 to win the Champions League Golden Boot for a seventh time.
