Overall, Ligue 1 takes a lot of stick from the rest of the continent, outside of PSG of course.
Every year, the Parisians are given very little credit for winning the league title due to the perceived notion that they are playing against a ‘bunch of farmers’ every week.
Yes, the length their resources stretch to is ludicrous compared to the rest of their domestic competition, but there are still some decent sides in the league that produce some excellent players that are often snapped up for big money.
On Sunday evening, two of the division’s top four sides met when Lyon hit the road to face Saint-Etienne, with the former claiming a huge 2-1 victory to move into third in the Ligue 1 table.
Romain Hamouma gave the hosts the lead, before Nabil Fekir levelled from the penalty spot in the second half, allowing substitute Moussa Dembele to come from the bench to score a dramatic 95th minute winner.
However, Lyon would never have secured the three points had it not been for an incredible intervention from goalkeeper Lopes, who produced an incredible triple save with Saint-Etienne leading 1-0. Just minutes later, Fekir equalised from the penalty spot, setting the team up to go on and win the game.
Watch below to see the excellent sequence of saves from the Portuguese international that helped his team win the game.
