5 Tips for Saturday’s World Cup Quarter-Finals - 10/12/22

On Saturday, we see the final two quarter-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, as Morocco takes on Portugal, while England goes up against France.

So far at the World Cup, Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has scored two goals and created three assists, while Phil Foden of Manchester City has managed one goal and two assists in three appearances.

Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has been one of the stars of the tournament. The Fiorentina man has averaged two fouls per game at the World Cup across four appearances, receiving one yellow card. Harry Maguire has averaged 1.3 fouls per game, but, is yet to receive a card. Could the 29-year-old struggle with the pace of France’s attack?

Morocco and Portugal go head to head in Saturday’s early kick-off, with Fernando Santos’ men expected to win after their demolition of Switzerland in the Round of 16.

Last time out, Fernandes created an assist, meaning that he has five goal involvements in three matches at the World Cup. On top of this, emerging Benfica star Goncalo Ramos had five shots on target, scoring three times - becoming the second youngest player to score a hat-trick at the World Cup finals.

On top of this, Portugal managed six corners against the Swiss, while in Morocco’s memorable victory against Spain, both sides were shown one yellow card each.

As previously mentioned, Fernandes has been one of the stars of the tournament alongside the likes of Kylian Mbappe.

The 28-year-old has scored twice, with one of these being from outside the penalty area against Uruguay. For Portugal, the United star has scored 13 goals, doing so seven times in his last 11 appearances.

England versus France will be a hotly contested fixture on Saturday night, with both of these sides looking to book their place in the semi-finals of World Cup in consecutive tournaments.

Kyle Walker will face the daunting task of going up against PSG star Kylian Mbappe. The Manchester City defender has received one yellow card for club and country this season, but, will face his most stern test to date.

Meanwhile, Jules Kounde could be called up to France’s starting XI in order to deal with the likes of Marcus Rashford, this will be a major test for the Barcelona defender.

Three Lions captain Harry Kane enters this match with one goal and three assists in four appearances at the World Cup, while Mbappe has scored five goals and created two assists in four matches.

As mentioned above, Mbappe has scored five goals in four matches, while Kane has four goal contributions in the same number of fixtures.

Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka is having a decent tournament for the Three Lions, having scored three times, including England’s third in their 3-0 victory over Senegal in the Round of 16.

In France’s last match against Poland, Les Bleus had seven corners. Didier Deschamps’ men have been awarded 29 corners in four matches across the tournament as a whole.
