On Saturday in League One, Accrington Stanley host Sunderland at the Crown Ground in a battle of 11th against second in the standings.
The last time these two sides met was all the way back in early September were the Black Cats ran out as narrow 2-1 winners at the Stadium of Light thanks to goals by Dan Neil and Carl Winchester on either side of Michael Nottingham’s 30th minute equaliser.
Accrington come into this match as slight underdogs, but, have put in some impressive displays of late, as John Coleman’s men have drawn with both Milton Keynes Dons and Shrewsbury Town 1-1 and 0-0, as well as earning two 1-0 victories over Rotherham United and Bolton Wanderers.
On the other hand, Lee Johnson will be desperate to see his side bounce back from their 3-1 home defeat to Lincoln City of which former Black Cats forward Chris Maguire went viral with his celebration in front of his old boss following his opener for the Imps. This loss means that Sunderland have won just two of their last five matches, having also drawn 3-3 with Wycombe Wanderers and lost 5-1 to Arsenal. Johnson’s men did beat Doncaster 3-0 and Sheffield Wednesday 5-0 in late December.
Sunderland have won all of their last three visits to Accrington across all competitions, having done so twice in the 2019/20 campaign by 3-1 scorelines, as well as defeating Stanley 2-0 in March last year as Ross Stewart and Charlie Wyke both scored.
Prediction: Accrington Stanley 1-2 Sunderland 7/1
