Cagliari v Inter Prediction

Cagliari v Inter Prediction

Inter Milan simply have to win if they are to give themselves a chance of retaining the title with just two games left on the clock as they travel to the Sardegna Arena with absolutely everything to play for down at the bottom.

Despite so many points and positions in the league separating them from each other in Serie A, this is, in reality, the biggest game of the season for either side. If AC Milan can beat Atalanta earlier in the day, the title race will come down to the final day of the campaign next week, where Inter will have to win and hope their city rivals lose. A draw here and a Milan win would also not be enough for the reigning champions, as if Milan can win, they must simply match that result in this game.

As for Cagliari, they played out one of the most incredible games down at the bottom of the table last time out to Salernitana, as they conceded to the fellow relegation fighters just above them in the table. A win would have all but ended things for the club in their fight to survive, but despite missing a penalty and seeing a red card from Boris Radunovic, Giorgio Altare stunningly scored in the 99th minute to give Cagliari a fighting chance on the final two games of the season. Moreover, with Salernitana drawing on Saturday, the home side here can move out of the relegation zone with a win, as their goals difference is greatly superior.

Beating Inter who simply have to win in order to stay within touching distance of Milan in this incredible title race, is not going to be easy. In fact, we're backing Inter to get the job done quite easily here.

Cagliari team news

Cagliari will be without Boris Radunovic for the remainder of the season as he received a straight red card and is suspended. Kevin Strootman returned and wasn't used in the draw with Salernitana and he could play here, with Razvan Marin also potentially coming into the side. Pedro should start up top, but Keita Balde Diao could come into the attack alongside him with Pavoletti. Daniele Baselli could come into the defence for Ceppitelli once more, but Lovato and Altare are guaranteed names in the lineup with Simone Aresti remaining on the bench as Cragno stays in goal. Lykogiannis, Rog, Grassi, Deiola and Bellanova should remain in the midfield five here too.

Inter team news

After playing 120 minutes against Juventus in the Coppa Italia win, the club are likely to make some changes here. Ivan Perisic bagged twice and played the full 120 minutes, so Alexis Sanchez could start. Matteo Darmian may drop out for Denzel Dumfries as well, but Milan Skriniar, Stefan de Vrij and D'Ambrosio are all too important for Inter in defence and will play here with Samir Handanović in goal still. Hakan Calhanoglu should remain in central midfield as well, with Brozovic and Nico Barella, although Robin Gosen, Arturo Vidal and Alessandro Bastoni could all come in, especially Vidal. Lautaro Martinez and Edin Dzeko both came off in the game against Juventus, and they should remain here too.
