Arsenal vs Real Madrid Prediction

Mikel Arteta’s side utilised his squad options at the weekend by limiting players like Bukayo Saka and Thomas Partey to limited minutes, with this competition now taking centre priority in the Gunners season. Arsenal’s options defensively took a massive blow during midweek, with centre-back Gabriel now ruled out for the rest of the season.

The Gunners will still be challenging to beat on home soil, with only one defeat in the Premier League at the Emirates this season. Arsenal are unbeaten in their previous seven matches and scored first in five of their last six.

Real Madrid have already faced English opposition this season, beating Manchester City twice and losing to Liverpool. Los Blancos will still be reeling following their defeat to Valencia, but with the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr (both scored seven in this competition), they can still pose a threat to an Arsenal side missing an integral part of their defence.

We are going for a 1-1 draw at the Emirates here. Arsenal’s best chance of progression will take place in the home leg, but with the absence of Gabriel, they could be vulnerable to the plethora of options in Real Madrid’s attack.

Arsenal vs Real Madrid Preview & Prediction

The UEFA Champions League returns this week, with one of the more eagerly anticipated ties of the quarter-final stages taking place at the Emirates as Real Madrid travels to face Arsenal.

Date: 08/04/2024
Location: Emirates Stadium, London.
Kick-Off: 8pm

For Mikel Arteta, the UEFA Champions League represents the only opportunity for the North London side to win a trophy this season and end their five-year drought since their FA Cup triumph in 2020. Despite the Premier League race, mathematically still up for grabs, it’s highly unlikely that the Gunners will pose any threat to Liverpool, with the latter only needing four Premier League victories at a maximum to secure their 20th league title. The home side finished third in the league phase of the Champions League, only conceding three goals and scoring 16.

As for Carlo Ancelotti, it is widely expected that the serial winner could be departing at the end of the season, with the likes of Xabi Alonso heavily touted to replace the potentially departing manager. His Real Madrid side have reached the Copa del Rey final in which they will face Barcelona, who defeated them in the Supercopa de Espana. Real Madrid are second in La Liga, four points behind Barcelona, although they are looking to win their third UEFA Champions League crown in four seasons.

Where to watch

The game will be available on Amazon Prime Video.

Form Guide

H2H:

The two sides famously met in the 2005/06 season in this competition, with Arsenal famously securing a two-legged victory against Los Blancos on their route to the final. The only goal scored across both legs in the round of 16, was scored by Thierry Henry in which he capped off a magnificent run with an equally superb finish in the 47th minute.

Arsenal:

Following the 1-1 draw away from home against Everton, the Gunners are unbeaten in their last seven matches and have shown great potency in front of goal by scoring first in five of their previous six games. Interestingly, Arsenal have only won twice in their last five matches in all competitions, securing two victories against Fulham (2-1) and Chelsea (1-0).

Arsenal have been excellent on home soil this season, only losing three matches across all competitions against Manchester United (penalties), West Ham United (0-1) and Newcastle United (0-2) in the Carabao Cup semi-final. The Gunners are unbeaten in their last three home games, following two victories against Fulham (2-1) and Chelsea (1-0) and a draw against PSV Eindhoven (2-2), which was meaningless given the first-leg result against the Dutch opposition.

Real Madrid:

Los Blancos are winless in their previous two games in all competitions, following a surprising league defeat against Valencia (1-2) and a draw against Real Sociedad (4-4), in which the aggregate score for Real Madrid progressed them to the final of the Copa del Rey. Prior to this, Carlo Ancelotti’s side had won their last two league games against Leganes (3-2) and Villarreal (1-2).

Away from home, Real Madrid have lost twice in normal time in their last five matches, with the defeat against Atletico Madrid in the last round now meaningless since Los Blancos progressed via a penalty shootout. The other defeat took place in the league against an in-form Real Betis (2-1) side.
