AS Monaco vs Benfica Prediction

AS Monaco versus Benfica will be a close game to call, especially when considering that they were separated by just goal difference in the Group Stage of the Champions League.

Something to note is that Monaco’s home form in the Champions League is good, as they won three out of four matches, however, the blot on their copybook was an entertaining 3-2 loss at the hands of Benfica on 27th November, but, their defeat to the Liga NOS outfit was arguably down to the red card that Wilfried Singo received just before the hour mark when the game was tied at 1-1.

Five of the six times that Benfica have dropped points in Liga NOS have been away from the Estádio da Luz and their European form has been inconsistent, having recently drawn 0-0 with Bologna, lost 5-4 at home to Barcelona and beaten Juventus 2-0. Due to this, we predict a hard-fought score draw between Monaco and Benfica.

Prediction: AS Monaco 2-2 Benfica

AS Monaco vs Benfica Prediction & Preview

AS Monaco and Benfica go head-to-head at Stade Louis II in the Champions League’s Round of 32, with this tie having the potential to be a thriller.

Date: 12/02/2025

Location: Stade Louis II

Time: 8pm

As previously mentioned, this will be the second time that these two sides have met at the Stade Louis II this campaign, having previously faced off in Monaco back on 27th November, a game that saw Benfica emerge as winners thanks to dramatic late goals from Arthur Cabral and Zeki Amdouni.

Adi Hütter’s side managed to qualify for the Round of 32 via a 17th-place finish with 13 points from eight matches, having beaten the likes of Barcelona (2-1), Red Star Belgrade (5-1), Bologna (1-0) and Aston Villa (1-0), while drawing with Dinamo Zagreb (2-2) and losing to Benfica (3-2), Arsenal (3-0) and Inter Milan (3-0).

In terms of Monaco’s Ligue 1 campaign, they are fourth with 37 points from 21 matches, sitting outside the Champions League qualification places on goal difference behind third-place Nice. Disappointingly, though, Monaco failed to progress past the Round of 32 in the Coupe de France as they were beaten 3-1 on penalties away at Reims after a 1-1 draw.

On the other hand, Benfica are in the midst of an intense Liga NOS title battle with fierce rivals Sporting Lisbon. Bruno Lage’s side trail Sporting by four points despite earning 47 points from 21 matches, however, they have already had some success this campaign, beating Sporting in the final of the Taca da Liga on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

In the Champions League, Benfica finished ahead of Monaco on goal difference, as they also managed to finish on 13 points from eight games. The Portuguese giants managed wins over Red Star Belgrade (2-1), Atlético Madrid (4-0), AS Monaco (3-2) and Juventus (2-0) while drawing with Bologna (0-0) and suffering defeats to Feyenoord (3-1), Bayern Munich (1-0) and Barcelona (5-4).

Form Guide

AS Monaco

Adi Hütter’s men will be aiming to bounce back from their heavy 4-1 loss at PSG last weekend, having conceded goals to Vitinha, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ousmane Dembele (2), with Denis Zakaria’s 17th-minute equaliser being nothing more than a mere consolation goal by the time the full time whistle was blown at the Parc des Princes.

Prior to that game, Monaco had beaten Auxerre (4-2) and Rennes (3-2) in Ligue 1 while losing 3-0 at Inter Milan and earning a 1-0 home win over Aston Villa in the final two games of the Champions League’s Group Stage.

Benfica

Benfica have managed to go on a three game winning streak, following wins against Moreirense (3-2), Estrela (3-2) and Juventus (2-0) - Vangelis Pavlidis and Orkun Kocku both managed to get on the scoresheet in the latter mentioned victory.

In the run-up to the aforementioned matches, Benfica had suffered a shock 3-1 loss away at Casa Pia after a 5-4 home defeat to Barcelona on matchday seven of the Champions League’s Group Stage.
