Cardiff City and Reading will meet in South Wales at the Cardiff City Stadium to kick off another weekend of Championship action after a midweek set of fixtures changed things drastically in the second tier.
Both sides managed to return to the win column in midweek after clashes on Tuesday evening. The Royals met with Rotherham United at home and saw Tyrese Fornah win it in the 90th minute after Andry Carroll equalised too. This was Reading's first win since early January, as they drew with Queens Park Rangers, got hammered by Stoke City 4-0, drew 2-2 with Watford and lost to Sunderland 1-0.
Now, Paul Ince's men are into 13th and above Preston North End in 14th by a point. However, they could drop right down into 16th with games in hand for those around them. Worse yet for Reading, despite the points difference being a slim one, the club are behind the playoff spots by six points and their form does not bode well for them arguing their case to get into the top six.
As for Cardiff, they beat Birmingham City on the road on Tuesday evening with two late goals. Perry Ng scored the first in the 84th minute just before Callum Robinson continued his solid goalscoring form with a goal in the 95th minute of the game.
Despite this, the club are down in 21st still and sit with just eight wins on the board from 32 games and have scored the least goals in the league so far with 24 going in for them. Worse yet, they've also played the most games in the division and lost the most with 16, and this also means they could be pulled into the bottom three if either one of Wigan Athletic, Blackpool or Huddersfield Town win both their games in hand.
