For the first time in since the rebranding to the Championship in 2004, two sides who haven't been in the Premier League during this time will have a go at getting into the top flight when Coventry City and Luton Town meet at Wembley.
Coventry were last in the Premier League back in 2000/01 when they were relegated after finishing 19th. with just 34 points, eight wins and 20 games lost. They were back of the founding members of the Premier League, having spent the first nine years of the division's existence playing in it.
In fact, their relegation from the Premier League in 2001 was the first time they had dropped down from the first tier of English football into the second since 1996/67. Now, after spells in League One, a year in League Two and financial turmoil that almost sent the club into oblivion, Coventry are potentially 90 minutes back from ending their 22-year absence from the Premier League.
As for Luton, however, this is set to be their first-ever chance to get into the Premier League. Oddly enough, Luton were relegated from the top tier of English football in the year before the Premier League was founded, meaning they narrowly missed out on Premier League status.
They would continue to plummet down the football league pyramid and even end up in the Conference Premiership for four years between 2010-2014. Since then, it has been one of the best rises in English football history, and similar to that of Bournemouth's rise over the past decade.
This season, Luton finished third in the Championship and ahead of Coventry by two places, as the Hatters defeated Sunderland in the playoffs after drawing 1-1 at the Stadium of Light before a 2-0 victory back at Kenilworth Road. Gabriel Osho and Tom Lockyer were the heroes in the second leg of a 3-2 aggregate win.
Coventry managed to beat Middlesbrough against the odds in what was their third game in a row against Michael Carrick's men. This saw them defeat Boro 1-0 at the Riverside Stadium in the second leg, as Gustavo Hamer continued his excellent season with another goal.
