The John Smith’s Stadium plays host to a Yorkshire derby this weekend as Huddersfield Town face Sheffield Wednesday.
Huddersfield Town currently sit 21st in the EFL Championship with five wins, thirteen draws and eleven losses from twenty-nine games this season.
The Terriers are struggling this season on the whole, which is largely expected, as they find themselves deep amidst the relegation battle, just three points clear of the relegation zone.
They’re coming into this game in poor form having failed to win any of their last six games in all competitions, the most recent of which was a 1-1 draw away at Queens Park Rangers.
The draw in London was a fairly heartbreaking one for the Terriers who took the lead in the 86th minute courtesy of Jack Rudoni, only to be pegged back by a 95th minute equaliser by the home side.
The three points would have been huge for the Terriers but the draw means they come into this one very much needing three points.
Their form on home soil hasn’t been much better of late either, with Huddersfield having won just one of their last eight games on their own patch.
These two sides met back in October and played out a 0-0 draw at Hillsborough, but given Sheffield Wednesday have improved notably since then the Terriers should be wary.
This is a must-win for Huddersfield but it’s a game that could go either way.
Sheffield Wednesday currently sit 23rd in the EFL Championship with six wins, four draws and eighteen losses from twenty-eight games this season.
The Owls are resuming their attempts to climb out of the relegation zone in the Championship as they look to maintain their improvement under manager Danny Röhl following such a poor start to the campaign.
They’re coming into this game in okay form having won two of their last four games in the league, the most recent of which was a 1-2 defeat to promotion-chasing Coventry City.
The Owls rematched Coventry less than a week later in the FA Cup and claimed an improved result in a 1-1 draw, with Djeidi Gassama equalising with just six minutes of normal time remaining.
After the departure of manager Xisco Muñoz followed by the appointment of German Danny Röhl, Sheffield Wednesday have improved considerably and if they’d entered the season with him at the helm they’d likely remain in the division.
The question now is whether or not they gave too much ground to teams around them with their poor start, but considering they’re just six points behind Huddersfield a point here could leave them just three points shy of safety.
For our Huddersfield vs. Sheffield Wednesday prediction, we’re going for a 1-1 draw.
